intel p35 and x38 mobo to chosen

My friend got these boards both asus. One is x38 with ddr2 ram slots and p35 with dd3 ram slots. Both s775. He's cpu is Q6700.

X38 name p5e and p35 is p5k3 deluxe.

Are you sure. That P35 motherboard uses DDR2. The x38 board is the better board in other departments such as power delivery and the chipset itself.

Nope please the 1st post mate. P35 uses ddr3 ram.

ASUS P5KC LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Looks like my old Foxconn X38A....at least I assume its this board.

My thought is dont bother if the board is in fact both DDR2 and DDR3. Likely neither will clock very well, and I dont recall any real performance gain from using DDR3 with a 775 proc.

From what I see only the P5KC and P5K3 are ddr3 flavors of the P35 Asus....can you link us to the exact board you have?

P5KE = P35, DDR2
P5K3 = P35, DDR3
P5E = X38, DDR2

P5E is better.

I assume you mean P5K3 Deluxe, as the P5K3 series was the only Asus P35 boards that used DDR3.

So it is this board vs this board.

The P35 and X38 were both pretty decent overclockers. This is a tough one. On one hand you have the x38 board that has x16/x16 support for dual graphics, while the P35 is only x16/x4. But on the other hand, at this point it kills me to invest any more money in DDR2. So if you plan on using dual graphics cards, I'd go with the x38 board, if not I'd go with the P35.

Good point, considering the price of DDR3 is cheap enough.
