im idling at 51c on stock cooler is that to hot?

my fan went out on my chil tech cpu cooler from ultra. so i had to put in a stock cooler for now and im idling at 51c and when a play everquest my temps go up to 65c can that damage my cpu? and i want to get this cooler is it good?

65c no that won't damage your chip.
And H70 is the successor to the H50, so its gonna be pretty good, especially for just 80 moneys.

i say that 65C is too hot for a phenom II. lower the OC for now. (or just undervolt at stock)


MRCL is thinking intel chips, which run hotter but can handle hotter temps.

i used a quick over clock setting in the bios and only had it at 3% which is its lowest or disable i didn't mess with any of the other settings except memory settings.

Auto overclocking is shit. We would strongly encourage you to do it manually.

51c idle, and 65c load, while they will probably not damage your chip, are certianly not desireable. That is quite high, even for a stock cooler.

1. Is it hot (weather wise) for you right now?
2. Is your case ultra messy? Zero cable management, lots of dust etc that will mess with airflow?
3. How did you mount the cooler? Check everything to make sure you're getting good contact. If you just stuck the cooler on without cleaning the old thermal paste off, definately clean up.

thats max recommended operating temps the silicone is fine over 97C+ hence notebook chips carrying 100C temp ratings.

I see so many people going back and forth about The X6 and their faulty core temps. Seeing as I own a 1090t i decided to contact amd and ask them what the deal was with with the temps, and my reply was quite astonishing.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I just recently had your email forwarded to my department.

Concerning your question regarding the temperatures with your processor. (1090) the maximum temperature threshold is 62 Celsius which set for the internal die (core) temperature of the chip. The core temperatures have an equational offset to determine temperature which equalizes at about 45 Celsius thus giving you more accurate readings at peak temperatures. The hindrance in this is the sub ambient idle temperature readings you speak of.

The silicon and adhesives used in manufacturing these processors has a peak temperature rating of 97+ Celsius before any form of degradation will take place. The processor also has a thermal shut off safe guard in place that shuts the processor down at 90 Celsius.

The Cpu temperature is read form a sensor embedded within the socket of your motherboard causing about a 7-10 Celsius variance form the actual Cpu temperature, which may be what you are reading about on the net.

You can use an application called AMD overdrive, that will allow you to monitor your temperatures accurately.

As long as your core temperature has not exceeded the high side of the 60 degree mark for extended periods of time you should be ok. 62 degrees holds a generous safety net to begin with.

41c idle? That's still pretty high... but it's been ages since I've used a stock cpu cooler.

I got the same info straight from AMD when I bought my 940. With the stock cooler it would reach 61-63 degrees while gaming and I was worried. That being said, I went aftermarket immediately, the cooler your cpu, the better. Now I'm on water. Prior to that, I had a cheaper Ziggy 963 that kept it below 54 degrees.

WOW I have a cheap CPU cooler a 600mhz OC with Q&C enabled with max CPUv at 1.42v and It never goes over 35c with a 72f ambient with 70% humidity but I seem to remember my 920 running at 45c max with a Xiggy DK....I don't think the OP needs to go all out on a cooler I think something along the lines of $30-$50 would workout just fine for em

as a phenom II owner i can rebut that comment about 90C not damaging the hardware - it might not damage it, but it WILL be unstable. temps degrades stability fast on phenom II's, especially thubans. lower voltages means lower temps = more stable most of the time.



as said tho, his crappy auto OC feature had set his Vcore too high. that was it.

i got the corsair h70 cooler today installing it was a bitch but i got it in my idle temps are 22c and when i played vanguard it didn't go over 31c i know thats not a real test but i'll test it later
