G.Skill showed off its fastest SATA solid state drive (SSD) at CeBIT, the Phoenix II series. Based on the SandForce SF-2000 series controller, Phoenix II pushes the limits of SF-2000 series in terms of throughput, and advertises some of the highest transfer rates for the chipset: 550 MB/s read, and 500 MB/s write. The company even validated these speeds using a session of ATTO disk benchmark. The 120 GB Phoenix II SSD was connected to an AMD SB850 SATA 6 Gb/s controller, on a system headed by Phenom II X6 processor. G.Skill said that the 120 GB model would be priced at €299.

Glad to see AMD controllers doing well on new SF-2000 SSD's, since many other sites advertised that "Sandy Bridge Platform" is a must-have to take full advantage of the new chips.

"Doing well" is irrelephant when we don't have data on Intel platform for the same drive.

Might not be the same drive but it's certainly the same chip ;)

What happens when there are data on that drive to speed ?

It's even slower than 'regular' HDDs. :)

I've always been impressed with G.Skill's memory sticks. Now they're starting to impress me even more with their SSDs.
550mb read/500mb write is just....whats the word I'm looking for?... ORGASMIC!
Price seems very steep though

If I had the money, I'd get one of these for my laptop in a heartbeat. My laptop has an AMD SB850 southbridge, so all my ports should be good for SATA 6Gb/s. :rockout:

So the 250GB version would be ~400$. Add to that price UE taxes + VAT and the product will be somewhere around 500€....

And when you think that the Seagate Cheetahs are only half of price of those SSDs on the same size, you start to wonder....

There's really no comparison here, SSD's are superior in every way. To be honest, those Cheetahs sound ridiculously overpriced.

Dang Fast drive. But by the time you install windows want have to much room to play but I guess it is only a matter of time before larger size ones come onto the market.

Not in data reliability and size also. How much a 600GB SSD do you think it will costs?
