open office or libre office

as we know open office split into 2. the old one that now taken by oracle and new project that we know labelled with libre office. so which one you gonna use since both of them have the same base

Well as you said - they have the same base so I would imagine it will be a matter of taste.
On my Linux laptop I am running Libre . . . and the only reason is the fact that it is not influenced by Oracle.

have not tried Libre. If I'm doing something linux again I'll sure try it out. I got an Office 2007 Ultimate key from work so on the windows side I use that.

Open Office, because it is already installed. While they have split, there have not been any real changes to the software. OpenOffice and LibreOffice are currently identical. Neither has any advantage over the other.

We will see what changes in the future.

Oh wait. I can put OpenOffice on a thumb drive as a portable App. Point to the Old.

Update: I have to take that last statement back. Portable Apps added Libre Office as well.

Neither for me.

Lotus Symphony 3 and MS office (various flavors).

But, if, I had to choose one... Probably, Libre Office.

I will never pay for MS Office when I can get the same functionality for free. Plus I don't have to feel dirty about the shady tactics the MS Office crew use to get what they want in the corporate sector and currently pending lawsuits about the illegal and unauthorized use of Docx formats.

While we are on the subject. Does anyone know if WordPerfect Office Suite by Corel is still around? Or if anyone actually uses it?

my focus is all about which one of these that gain much attention, since they are based on the same thing so i leave ms. office symphony is a good apps but mostly people familiar with ooo so i skip this and why i just take ooo and libre coz they have the same version 3.3 so i guess its equal to compare

I use it 'cause it costs nothing additional for me. And, it does what I want.

Haven't used Libre Office yet, but given the choice, I would try the two, and use whichever I like the best. No crap reasoning like "its run by Oracle, and I don't support them", I don't want to be a fanboy. Between free Open Office and a £30 MS Word though, Word wins for me, due to various stupid reasons like if other technologically challenged people wants to use my computer, they can have something comforting.

Inserting formulas in Libre office is a chore. And it's some interface annoyances but it's free and opens everything I need. I also used Latex and Google Docs. Of course MS Office has the best interface and easy navigation but it's because I used MS Office more than its rivals.
