but 870 class is not an AM3+ Mobo.how they can fit less pinned bulldozer with an soft update

GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3....
It's a newer revision of that board with a different socket and more up to date bios.

I would like that board alot. Seems to be a fitting board for budget buyers.

I believe the link below is the same motherboard listed on Newegg. I've come to the conclusion that some previous chipsets work with bulldozer as long as you have the necessary socket. If you look at the image below you'll notice the socket is black. I'd bet if your AMD boards socket is white you're out of luck for bulldozer.

who said bulldozer was going to be higher wattage than the current phenom chips and how many boards can power a thuban @4.5ghz 24/7 because thats a good bit over 200w. i know my 790FX can as could my 790GX and 890FX.

Boo PCI-E 16x, 4x. I would have assumed that newer boards (AM3+) would be at least PCI-E 8x, 8x. Maybe my standards are too high.

Over on XS (I think) I read that the reason certain Asus boards will work with Bulldozer on their AM3 boards is because they wired up the socket with preparation for Bulldozer in mind.

Not really hacking. The difference between 890fx and 990fx are going to be very minimal. Power saving features and stuff like that. I don't see how the chipset can affect performance with AMD. HT link isn't a factor, North Bridge (IMC controller) is in the CPU. For a lot of 890fx boards all it will take are some new heatsinks and possibly a different color scheme to make it 990fx.

Sure, it hacks into their sales for AM3+ boards! I wonder what their board partners call it? Either way, I'll be trying my Bulldozer on my AM3 board first.

Ok, a little more info from kinc

Featured AM3 processors such PII X6 uses 938 of 940 AM3s connection entries (two of which were never and are not routed by default, except the cards ASUS lists in their press release). AM3 + socket has 941 connections. AM3 + CPUs, however, has 940 connections, the exact same number of AM3 socket. Hence it is suitable even reasonable physical. Just be aware that it "only" works in practice with the motherboards on ASUS list.
Important to say is that it's only those who work when they have the correct routing to the power circuitry to operate a AM3 + CPUs.

So there you have the explaination to why it doesn't work on ex: gigabyte boards before v3.1
Asus has routed the extra am3 socket pin-holes on the listed models, where the other manufacturers have not.
