For a long time I've been using my 360 to stream files from my hard drive to my TV which is like 5 feet from my PC.

I do this at night when I go to bed and want to watch something, or if I'm with my girlfriend, etc. But, my 360 red ringed and I've brought it back to life 5 times but I think it's finally dead now.

I have an external hard drive which is basically a large USB stick, no power supply needed and no fans or anything. It's great, 600 gigs or so.

I'm wondering if there is any other way shy of buying a streaming box (which If I did I would get a high quality 200$ one. Would rather not do that now) to stream videos from my PC to my TV.

PS3 is in another room being used and I can't move it. I have a PS2 hooked into my TV but you can't do anything with the PS2 as far as streaming goes.

It's a hassle to watch things from my bed on my monitor even though it's a 24 inch it's still like 15 feet away AND on an angle.

I can't think of anything. I've got a headboard on my bed and I stuck my netbook inside it and I watch movies on that but it's really awkward to lay there and watch something that is literally like half a foot in front of your face.

I'm willing to buy something, but only if it's cheap. I don't need AMAZING quality, but maybe somebody knows of a hidden gem or something that works great and is cheap-ish.. The TV is an old bubble screen, it's like 35-40 inches or something. I just need something I can connect my external hard drive to, and read files off it such as .avi .mkv etc. OR I need a device that can stream to my TV.

I have a lot of electronics so I figure maybe somebody has a solution that I might be able to find around the house. As said previously, I can't use the PS3, though.

Could you just get one of them video senders/recievers? plug sender into pc and reciever into tv. Seems pretty simple, dont know about cheap though.

The WD Live (Plus for Netflix) is awesome and what I recommend. Way better than the 360 for watching streamed media. With the WDLXTV custom firmware it's even better. You can get them for under $50 for a refurb sometimes if you catch it on Slickdeals. The remote sucks but a cheap Harmony works wonders.

Does it stream files from a computer too as well as Netflix? That's mainly what I need.

Is that it?

It sounds great. Amazing reviews too.

Be careful with some brands as they do Netflix but some some make you use a PC to select what you want to watch meaning if you don't have a PC or don't use one for netflix you wont be watching any thing. SONY's BD players are a good example they just give you the que of films you selected from using a PC or a device that supports Netflix fully.

BYW you can get the LG bd590 from Amazon for $200 which is $50 cheaper than egg.

That is what I use, great little device. You can either plug the USB drive in to the front and play the media from that, or stream it from your PC like you would with your Xbox/PS3. The interface is very very similar to the PS3 interface.

The only thing I've seen that it won't play is (maybe only certain?) .WMV files. The Netflix works really good too, although the menu (and selecting a Netflix movie) isn't as nice as on the XBox 360.

If you do decide on a WD unit make sure you check out B-Rad's custom firmware which enables all kinds of features and modifications.

Yeah, so I would need something that connects with the red white and yellow cables.

What about the Orb App for the Wii?

I heard it's similar to the windows media player extender on 360 and free if you have a Wii, but I'm worried that the quality is absolute crap.

Anybody have experience with it?

you could save up/ get a TV with HDMI perhaps... going to have to at some point.... check the classifieds if youre skint...And as your PC is only 5 FT away you could get a large 1080p and use HDMI....use it as your gaming screen too maybe

If I'm not so willing to buy a box to connect a hard drive to, I'm definitely not buying a brand new TV lol I don't need one. I'm good with my old bubble tv =D

Nope just composite lol

of course.. I think you should buy a new television because your not getting a decent picture with composite. you can probably buy a media player with composite support or HDMI to composite converter but both solutions will cost $100+

you can buy a Dynex 32" LCD at Futureshop for $297.

sorry :(
