i am thinking about buying a Auzentech X-Fi Bravura 7.1 instead of my onboard audio on my Asus Maximus III Gene.

ino my audio ain't standard Realtek ALC889 Codec like most board out there, it got a VIA VT2020 that can emulate Creative X-Fi and Asus call it SupremeFX X-Fi but wouldn't a external audio be much better also for future use?

i am listening to a lot of music day in and day out, and i want a Sennheiser HD 215 i have read that they should be awesome.

i have heard that Sennheiser makes not only good quality headphones but the sound in them should be good/nice too, that's why i am going to buy the HD 215.

but i want a little advice here since i don't know a lot about this ^^;

Uhhh, I am not too sure about getting a nice high end sound card and pairing it with a budget pair of cans. Try Head-Fi for ideas?

i had read Guru3D's review of the card and it looks good, and i like that it has normal jack connector aswell for headphones so i don't need to unplug my speakers to have headphones connected too ^^

Actually Bravura is the same thing as Xtreme Audio, it just has better components (DACs, opamps etc). Personally i'd stay away from it if you're a gamer. Besides, a proper X-Fi chip is a better option anyway.

If you use headphones a lot and music is your top priority, look at the ASUS Xonar Essence STX. It has incredible sound output for stereo and especially using headphones as it has a dedicated amplifier for the headphones and probably one of the best components available soldered on it.

That Bravura is a badass card. I love my Auzen X-Fi Forte, but having a true x-fi for gaming is more myth than fact anymore in modern games. I still prefer some of the software features of the creative control panel just because I've spent the last few years accustomed to how it all works and comes together. I use headphones primarily, and switch between my cheap ($35) JVC HARX700's (using now), and much more expensive Denon D2000's. I love both, but really bang for the buck I've yet to beat the HARX700's for my ears. Especially with the Forte's headphone amp, iirc the Bravura's HP amp is either the same or improved.

It'd be a very solid sound card option for you, asus make some solid performers and even some of Creative's current line-up are quite good. I honestly haven't experieneced issues with the x-fi lineup (though I generally used the mid and lower end variants), so my feelings towards Creative are more positive than most it seems. Really any option will blow away the SupremeFX card output-wise, which can be quite a difference with the right speakers/headphones. I've listened to many onboard and "onboard quality on an add-in PCB that uses x-fi for software, but has weak output compared to a real x-fi" setup. Get a real sound card, and be done with it, even an ancient x-fi xtreme music (my first true x-fi sound card) blew me away compared to any onboard solution I've had experience with to this day. The STX is a badass card, many prefer it that listen to music a ton, and many prefer the Forte when the primary option is gaming. Though both perform great in both categories, the STX is the more powerful card amp-wise, and it's a beast all the way around. One that many people get and will use for years and years.

On the HP's, Senn's are loved by the masses, and I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. I've yet to own a pair of my own, so I won't make a serious yay or nay at that model you are after. Depending on what you're after there are a ton of good options, though if you get something that needs a ton of power to push it (not necessarily a derivitave of the ohms rating), you may need a dedicated HP amp beyond the sound card amp to push them properly and enjoy them.

It's your wallet, but a good sound card and a decent pair of headphones will go a long way for sound, much more than most people realize, or even know they want till they hear it! :D

Be sure to kick an HP review in the TPU HP thread (link in sig) when you get those Senn's! :toast:

You can change those earpads yourself, if your cats enjoy shredding them. Between my Fatal1ty HS800 and my friends PC350 I will take the HS800 anytime, the performance difference between both is not high enough to justified the 4x price. 2-3x maybe, but definitely not 4x.

Erm... Low end Senns are terrible compared to the alternatives. What kind of budget are you willing to pay for the headphones?

There is a few entry level phones I can recommend.

Audio Technica AD700 < pretty much the best entry level phone you can get
Denon D1001/ Creative Aurvana Live < Cheap and good if you like quite a bit of bass

budget may be a little tight but around $114 ino it may not be much but hopefully i can find some bang for that kind of money.

i had read reviews of the HD 215 and they say it's a good pair of headphones.
i am listening to music from Trance/J-Trance to music from the 40's ino it's a large range but i listen to the music i like ^^;

and i want ear-cups or what u call them not in-ears plug or some that sits on ur ears tried alot and that's just not me :/

The HD212 are very low quality mass consumer headphones, most people who heard better won't even bother to write a review on them.

At $114 (USD?) take a look at AD700, it might be pushing the budget a bit but they are very good value for money.

I use my in ear senn CX-300II's and a desk mic, these phone sound very nice for the price. I dont really like big phones as i wear glasses and they make my ears hurt.

Tried searching for Creative Aurvana Live? They are pretty cheap but sounds great. Its quite bassy though.

around 106 usd in Germany and 113usd in my country ^^

but bassy u can get with any headphones, even the Audio-FX's i got now got a "bassy function" if i can call the "Force Feedback" that.

so it's impossible to find some with crisp sound for around 114usd? 0.0

If you have no previous experience with better headphones, I am inclinded to say you will be blown away by the D1001/CAL!.

They are bassy compared to others, but by no means boomy, or muddy. They are in fact having very crisp treble and clear.

Bass boast, EQ and such can increase bass level on headphones if you wanted, but you can never make a bass-light pair sounding very bassy without ruining its sound.

In short you would be fine with the CAL! for normal music listening, they are very comfy as well.

+1 on the audio technica 700s. Although I prefer the closed back ones but I may be biased since I own them. Still, I absolutely love my setup and will never go back to onboard or creat!ve again, and I'd sooner sacrafice sli/crossfire than give up dedicated audio.

Get a good set of phones and separate mic as suggested. There can be quality issues with the combo ones. Plus those 5.1, 7.1 phones are no where near the audio quality of nice stereo cans + virtual surround.
