Water cooling advice ...

i jsut received my tax return woohoo! free candy for me. so now i just ordered this from dazmode.com

4x 1/2" ID Tubing - Long Barb - BLACK NICKEL
4x 1/2"ID Tubing Hose Clamp
4x Barb Clamp for OD: 16mm (5/8") 'did not know if i should use 1/2 or 5/8)
1x EK-FC6970 Full Cover Block for HD6970 - Acetal-Nickel
1x Feser Aqua - Bi-Distilled Uber Pure Water
1x Feser Base - Corrosion Blocker & Biocide
1x Rasa 750 RS240 Complete CPU WaterCooling Kit
1x Slim Single 120mm Radiator XSPC RS120

My plan is to have this installed this way.

Pump-->CPU-->120mm rad-->GPU-->dual rad-->pump

and i was wondering if this setup looks okay to anybody with experience. i am going to miss any part once i receive this? should i get supplemental hardware?

exactly i have a cm sniper, and up top i only have room for dual, and i can have anything outside the case as i have kids

Well I don't know if I'd call your money returned to you "free" but that's another story for another forum.

Looks good offhand except I'm not sure about your clamps as also not sure what tubing size (ID and OD) comes in that kit? Smart move getting the Rasa kit until you have more experience with what's what. And a great example of this is your present barb clamp size confusion.

Sounds like it's going to be a nice setup. I have a mid tower also and had 1/2" tubing but after seeing how huge the tubing looked in the case, decided to try 3/8" ID tubing instead. Looks much better to me and no difference in cooling really.

XSPC raza is :Tubing Size: 7/16" ID x 5/8" OD which mean nothing to me first i use Centimeter and milimeter all i can see is that this is 7/15 inside diameter and 5/8 outside diameter ... and the barb is 1/4 to 1/2 ....

was not in stock, and i wanted full part now but of course once build , i will see cooling performance and upgrade rad if needed , i think upgrading rad is fairly easy once you get a basic setup going. also i will try installing the dual rad on top of the casing making 2 hole for the hose , and i will try to use the 200mm fan to see if this setup would work first , of not then il upgrade

Yeah the fact it's inches as opposed to metric system doesn't matter; the actual numbers are what's important e.g. outer diameter is "5/8". Though at this point just wait until everything is there and you'll figure out pretty quick if you have everything you need.

hehe yeah that what i taught , but right now im like a kid the morning of xmas lol and once i receive everything i will probable cry if i am missing something it will be already hard that i will have to wait after the i get the setup running with computer off for 24 hours for leak test , ... lol

one piece of advice i always give to anyone with a watercooling set up is

Any watercooling set-up can be improved by drilling holes in the radiator, as this lets the heat escape

On a more serious note always do the water cooling tests by jump starting the psu - if you do it with any components in the case its a waste of time as everything gonna get wet anyway

And if you do get water on anything - things can normally be fixed by resetting the psu and letting the water evaporate off for a few days

With just the GPU and CPU, i go hardcore and install everything all at once lol. Overclock it, then play games later on even if their are still micro bubbles present. Finished in an hour . Never received any leaks during my whole 3 times of replacing water.

hehe you like to play with fire since this is my very first install i will try thing outside case for at least 24 hours.. i don't want to finally have a decent water cooling but no computer LOL




now i just hope i have enough tubing from the xspc kit to install the gpu cooler too and the extra rad...!

Outside of the case isnt' the best plan, because when you put it back in the case you will stress connections, no matter how careful you try to be, which actually increases your chances of a leak.

I know. That seriously blows. That's another main advantage to a kit--taking the guesswork out of choosing all the parts. But you just had to go ahead and add a GPU block now!

I totally agree with MT Alex on this part, I test for leaks with everything installed and leak test for only 3-4 hours though.

The only things plugged in for this test is the pump and a couple of odd fans(just to put some load to the power supply) usually through the fan controller. Just make sure all HDD's, optical drives and MB remain UNplugged during the test and you'll be fine. Or you can do like like me, grab a small cheap power supply to power the pump and odd fans only and jump start it with the green and black wires. Easy.

Got it! moving it aint a good idea so i will do it full install with p/s jumped so the rest of component won't have juice so if i have a leak i will not short circuit anything! ty

Yeah dude you may have jumped the gun a bit on adding GPU to loop, I'm sorry to say...

hehe i just removed my card and checked trough the fan fins and i can see the white sticker on vrm i think they are called , so i do have a reference and my EK block will fit fiew! i can sleep tonight so i can go outside in the morning and sit on the balcony waiting for mailman LOL

Looks really nice . one thing to add is water wetter this stuff is really good , I use it and it works !

water "wetter" ? what is that?

Water wetter is an additive used in vehicles, usually high performance engines and what it does nicely is it breaks down the water surface tension allowing the water to get into all the nooks and crannies to help cool the engine. I use it too in my loop with regular distilled water. You can get it at Canadian Tire. All you need is a small capful for a whole loop so your bottle will last a long time.

EDIT: Water wetter is also anti-fungal and anti-corrosive. You wouldn't need the Fesser base.

humm i will look into that once I've got system running leak less for a week or two ty
