Hi guys, I just recently registered here, but I've been following TPU for quite a while on their reviews. I have a serious problem with my rig right now when I compare my Heaven results to Wizzards. But before I have the chance to make myself look like a prat, the config that Wiz uses on Heaven is:

DX11
Shaders: High
Tessellation: Normal
AF 16x
AA 4x
Resolution: 1920x1200
am I correct?

Now onto my problem, but first my rig specs:
AMD Phenom II 940 @ 3.8ghz, northbridge @ 2.6, HT Link @ 2.0
4GB DDR2-1066
MA790X-UD4P
HIS 6950 - Stock clocks

Anyways, when I test Unigine v2.5 on my 6950 with the same settings listed above, I get:
FPS 29.2
Min 16.4
Max 54.1
Score 735

I realize Wiz uses an i7 so I dont expect to get exactly the same score as him, but at my resolution, it's hard to believe I'm being bottlenecked by my CPU and yet I'm resulting in a drastic over 10 FPS difference, and I'm scratching my head as I'm out of ideas why this is.

Solutions I've tried/done, updated to latest CCC version 11.4, defragmented HDD, use drive sweeper to clean out previous graphics card driver.

So if anyone else can help, thanks a lot :)

Could you please post a full report of your rig(and software)? and the full list of options you used in the test? And from what I know the 6950 may have some issues with the Unigine benchmark.

Core i7 systems do produce dramatic differences in framerates over Phenom II particularly in crossfire.

While I'd say that's true normally does that really apply to heaven? It seems fairly cpu independent.

this is the kind of result i see with amd processor ... nothing to be concerned about!

you saved money on cpu :)

here is my result with an old q9400:

Here is CPU-Z of my system:

GPU-Z:

Rig:
AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition @ 3.8ghz
4GB DDR2-1066 CL5
MA790X-UD4P
Single HIS 6950 Stock clocks
CCC version 11.4(latest)
Corsair TX 650W
Antec 900, using CoolIT ALC
500GB 7200rpm HDD
24" Samsung 1920x1200

and @ sy5tem and sliderider:
Yes, I do understand core i7 are and will be faster, but I'm def not expecting this huge of a gap, 10 FPS difference, esp at this high of a resolution 1920x1200.

Unigine Heaven is the most bugged benchmark ever...has been since the first version and has continued the tradition all the way through the 2.5 version.

To make things even more complicated is the recent introduction of ATI's 11.4 driver which skews the results even further. The cpu can have a dramatic effect on results in all versions on both ends of the spectrum when overclocking.

While a beautiful benchmark, I have seen little purpose for use as comparison between hardware...I now just run it for entertainment. Check out all the threads here on the benchmark and you will see what I mean. Of particular interest is the latest located here...http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141708

When the phenom 940 was released it was in direct competition with the q9400 that for sure I know. From the reviews I read about those CPU's, they were pretty even, although the q9400 was probably slightly faster with the phenom winning some and q9400 winning too. Although on the gaming front at higher resolutions like mine, their usually was a slight to no difference. This huge 10 fps gap between mine and Wizz's doesn't seem to be right at all. In fact, the 6 FPS diff between me and you(sy5tem) seems far fetched too with my CPU oc to 3.8ghz and northbridge at 2.6ghz, it seems impossible for my CPU to be bottlenecking my 6950 although I could be wrong about this.
