I am looking for an upgrade of my current 9600GT. All i need is performance, my resolution for playing games will be 1440x900 which will not be exceed by any means. I am totally confused with the current generation of GPU's especially with AMD taking on the green team.
I am an nVidia fan so probably wanting to stay in the green team due to PhysX, but if performance from AMD at that price point is better, then i would go with them.

Yeah, GTX560Ti, aroun 240$ totally worth it. I would guess over 3 times increase in performance over your card.

Well by the sound of it you don't want a ATI so go for a nvidia card. How ever why not use your old card as a PhysX card ?.

Over wise you can have a 6950 for that price with a rebate. And if nvidia maybe some thing like a 560 TI. And there is a hack for ATI \ nvidia PhysX

At that price point, your options are the 6950 or the GTX560 Ti, both performs roughly the same. Personally, I would get the 6950 because I might be able to unlock it to 6970, which is about 10% faster than both. It boils down to how much you want PhysX - I view PhysX as a marketing gimmick at worst, at best very few games make substantial use out of it, therefore right now the 6950 is a better purchase. If you can't be bothered to gamble, get the 560Ti instead, both of them are very capable cards.

Previously i have never encountered with AMD products so lil worried.
As for the PhysX is concerned, if i get a 560Ti the need of PhysX will be fulfilled. Also i like to mention is that i will be going to couple this new card with my old Q6600, so CPU power is sufficient with these new cards in current generation games. Oh yea i forgot i do F@H and WCG member

The problem with this is unlocking the card will VOID the warranty and if you have to RMA it then you can't ! I think it is bad advice to tell some one to unlock cards . Personally I think nVidia would be better than a 6950 , I only wished I had the cash for one of them GTX560ti cards . Would out perform every thing I have . I am going to put my GTX260 back in as soon as I get it back from my brother .

I was going to mention the HD 6950 as well, but now you mentioned folding and we all know nvidia is great in that, unsure on AMD's side though, so buy the GTX 560 Ti bro:toast: DERP DERP:)

I'm a Palit user, and I've had no issues with them. And besides, if you get a reference board, they're all the same.

In my opinion, brand is all down to preference. Some people have horror stories with brands that others have angelic stories with. Either go with a brand you absolutely trust or something reputable but I'm never afraid to try something new. Read reviews and stay away from specific cards that have many people reporting the same issues. My $.02.

Personally at that price point I would say AMD has the best value. The HD6950 will beat a GTX 560 Ti. So if you are looking for price performance I would say AMD.

But if you like PhysX and it is important to you.... then go with the GTX 560 Ti. Both cards would be about 3 to 4 times upgrade for you.

Although if you plan on adding a second one latter down the road... the HD 6950 does scale better than the GTX 560 Ti

I'm just going to throw this out there as an option for you. I'd pick up a HD6850 and then buy a couple of used 19' monitors to go with the one you have for some Eyefinity action.

I did it and love it.

I appreciate that but i got Intel's DG33FB Mobo which doesn't have 2 PCI-E slots, so it would be a single card to fit in. I don't wanna change other parts as this will be my last upgrade for this rig.

Reaching your left retina.
Here's a recent price/proformance chart at around your resolution.

http://img.techpowerup.org/110504/perfrel_1680.gif

1680x1050 is not anywhere close to his resolution*. 1280x1024 is:

He already decided so it's a moot point, but I really think that for his resolution (and folding and physx) the GTX560 ti is much much better. For some reason GTX4xx and 5xx perform much better on lower resolutions than their counterparts.

* 1680x1050 = 1.76 Mpixels
1440x900 = 1.29 Mpixels
1280x1024 = 1.31 Mpixels
