Depends on how your other setup is. If you are running a 2560x1600 screen, 570 is probably better, and another 570 down the line. If you are running a 1650x1050 then 2x460. Also, your processor. If you are running a Phenom II x4 and have no plans of upgrading it in the next two years or so, then 460. etc.

If you have no plans of upgrading your screen before you upgrade your graphics card(s) again, and your PSU can handle it, yes.

Edit: This is of course the 2x460's being quite a bit cheaper than the 570. If they are priced similarly, then the 570.

Im using a p67 motherboard which does not allow you to OC the onboard GPU.

Fixed.

and you are acknowledging the fact that i will have to utilize them in x8 mode, correct?

If the price is right I will run them on x1 mode. The performance hit is negligible, taking less than 5% at x8, less than 10 at x4 and less than 20% at x1, based on GTX580 PCIe limitations, and assuming the GTX460 scales similarly (which of course it doesn't GTX460 needs much less bandwidth).

Depends on your luck. There are people who have an absolute blast using SLi and AMD, while others will blow up their computer in frustration. From a price/perf standpoint, the 2x460 is a better choice, but if you are willing to trade some power and money for potentially less frustration, by all means go ahead. That is what Mac users have been doing for the past x years.

For power , definetely go 460 , but works good till 1920x1080 , so best choice for you. BTW with PCI-e 2.0 x8 won't be bottleneck for any single gpu (test was done with 480 which is on par with 570 ; more or less) ... And yea , all these problems with cooling, good motherboard (for 2 slot space between cards for coolig), processors, microsuttering ; better go with 570 (some pretty good colling ofc) :)

EDIT: Imagine you can't go SLI in some game and you're left with 20 FPS :D

I would go with the 570 just for simplicities sake. Further down the road it gives you more upgrade options as well. As many people have pointed out, don't let "8x\8x" on the P67 platform fool you, GPU's do NOT use all the banwidth they are alloted when it comes to gaming, so instead of it being the 50% performance hit you would expect, it's more like 5-10% per drop (About -- 16x=100, 8x=95, 4x=85, 1x=80). You also have to consider that the 5xx series is more likely to receive a performance boost in future driver releases since it is the newest line of GPU's nVidia has to offer.

Well a 2 GTX460 are around 380$, one 570 is around 350$, difference in performance is around 18% in favor of the SLI (assuming you have no problems). Oh, I just saw that those 460s are the 768MBs, then I think they are almost on par with a GTX570. Go with the big boy, my opinion.

I'd always pick a single card over a double, due to the known issues with doubles, such as scaling etc.

If we're talking about 768MB GTX460s, then avoid the SLI at all costs.

Though I haven't seen 768MB GTX460s for a while now, I don't know if they still sell those.

EDIT: I just saw the newegg links. Get the GTX570.

I'd take the GTX570 and call it a day, but thats just me. I own one now and came from a single GTX460 1gb. IF and only IF you can score two 1gb 460's for less than a GTX570 I say do that.

the GTX570 is one hec of a fast card tho, and if you buy one I reccommend either the Asus DCII model, Gigabyte OC model or MSI twin frozr model. all offer better cooling/acoustics and overclock-ability/longevity.

You know, if you are set on nvidia, of course, the 570 is the better card.

But at the same time, you can get an AMD 6950 for about $100 less, and it performs pretty much on par with the 570.
