What kind of cooler should I get?

Okay, I've got a AMD Phenom II 925 and I have a simple 6 heat pipe small tower heatsink. I was thinking of getting a H50, or a H70. Do you think it is worth it? Or should I spend more on a six core? I was thinking of just asking my mum to get me a 6 core at 2.8 ghz off a guy in my town for $80 for my birthday.

How much have you been able to over clock by using that heat-sink?

I brought a H60 at the start of the month and have been able to take my Intel Q6600 to 3.4ghz, whereas with my previous Zalman 9900 i could barely get 3.0ghz.

If those are the coolers you have to pick you cannot go wrong. Any of the sealed Corsair water coolers will do.

With the motherboard that I have it's oem because I can't afford a gamer one so it's stock clocked.

If you can't overclock I really don't see a point in upgrading the CPU cooler.

Getting comparable or better cooling while quieter is a valid reason to upgrade.

Yeah, that's something you'll have to check first. The H50 is thinner than the H70, obviously. I found that I had more room in my case when I swapped my tower heatsink to a H50. I think the H50 is 27mm thick - so if you look at where your 120mm fan mount is and imagine it twice as thick (also note that it's actual dimensions are: Width: 120mm / Height: 152mm / Depth: 27mm).
