I'm planning on building a gaming pc but im not sure whether or not to wait for bulldozer or go ahead and go with a 2600k. I would like to hear some opinions and if bulldozer is gonna be worth the wait.

Nobody knows what BD is going to be yet. If you need a computer now, get the 2600k, it's plenty fast and great for gaming. If you feel like waiting, wait. I'm sure there's quite a few other threads on this same subject if you search. I'd also like to make it clear that this will not be another theoretical BD speculation thread.

It really depends on your situation.

If you really want the best you can get, I would recommend waiting to see if Bulldozer is better.

If you need a system now, get Sandy Bridge. It is a hell of a processor at a good price.

BD should kill on any integer intensive app. IDK if that helps you.

I do WCG so I'm more interested in floating point and I'm waiting to see how BD compares on those benchmarks.

Depends on your current rig and how patient you are.
I you want a new rig now, just get something Intel based.
If you are patient and would like to be able to make a decision based on solid facts, wait till Bulldozer comes out and people have tested it.

If you have something like i7 920 atm, you could wait until Ivy Bridge comes around.

Go for it and don't look back.
Upgrade to a 6 core sandy bridge down the road if you feel like you need more but an overclocked 2500k is more than adequate for most and an overclocked 4 Core 8 Thread 2600k is plenty. Grab some CAS 8 2 x 4gb DDR3 1600, a high end air cooler, and an SSD while you are at it. Windows 7 64 bit of course, otherwise stick to CAS 6 2x 2gb DDR3 1600.

If you can fill out your system specs, or list it on the OP then we'd be able to more accurately suggest something suitable for your needs as like someone said if you have a last gen i7 Nehalem or Phenom II 6X then you'd have more reason to wait than splurge now.

But if its simply one or the other choices then my opinion would be... if you're patient then wait and see what BD brings to the table if you're not patient then I'd say go for a 2500k/2600k now screw the waiting as its current gen and Ivy is approaching.

BD comes out when? Not got a solid release date yet, just speculation

Also, socket 2011 end of year? with quad channel memory support, should beat all the competition if your budget stretches.

So like folk have said, if you're on a decent cpu now (phenom II, i7) just wait and then wait some more for sandybridge-E.

or do this:

2500K, OC it and play games while others wait for bulldozer or any other future technology

If you can get a good deal on a 2500k or 2600k, then id suggest going for one those.

If they still dont provide enough muscle under the hood then Intel's Ivy Bridge is just around the corner and backwards compatible with the same socket

I would just wait the month or so. Anyone also know the speculated release date of the Ivy's?

Pretty sure we will be seeing BD parts out for purchase by the end of August. But if they delay it again...I'm jumping ship to a 2500k. I've waited long enough to upgrade from my C2D.

I misread the poll, I think you should wait for Bulldozer to see if any price drops or better cost:performance CPU's emerge. But if you need the PC right now, go 2500k with a nice z68 mobo and don't look back :p
