First hi, nice to meet you all !!!

Ok i have 2 upgrade plans, one with AMD and the other one with Intel....

1° Get a Phenom II x4 955, with a AM3+ MoBo and 8gb DDR3
2° i5 2500k with P67 1155 socket MoBo, 8gb RAM (Wich is almost 150-200 more than the Phenom)

is there a lot of difference between the i5 and the PIIx4 at 1280x720 resolution ?

the problem is this... i know that the i5 2500k destroys the x4 in gaming and ill be fine for a few years (3 at least), thats a fact... my problem is that, with Ivy Bridge and Bulldozers soon to come (BD in 2 months and IB mid2012), i may just get the Phenom, save me those 150, start saving again and see what BD and IB have to offer on late 2012

so now comes to mind 2 things, will we see too much difference between SB and IB/BD ? how much difference in perfomance will i see between the PII x4 and the SB i5 2500k in 1280x720 resolution ?

And for a fact, im on a hurry to upgrade and i wont buy first gen BD, because most of the times, first gen stff comes with problem or get replaced with a way better second gen.

MY Specs are
Atlhon x2 5600+
4gb DDR2
HD5770
19' (Max Resolution: 1280x720)

so after all, should i just fo got the i5 eyes closed ? or its better to just get the Phenom save some money and see what BD/IB has to offer in late 2012 ?

PD: i do have the money for the i5/P67/8gb DDR3

i know right, thats an option, but i really dont like to spend in a monitor, and use them till they die... so meh... i preffer use the money for CPU/GPU and when the time comes (wich if the box is right will be in 2 years) change it

i could plug the PC into the FullHD TV (1920x1080), but i really like my 19' (even if its 1280x720, wich sucks i know)...

I say get a AM3+ mobo and the x4 955, because the proc will work and when the second gen BDs come out all you need to do is get a new cpu

I don't blame you. I have a 19" wide screen lcd (1440x900) that speakers have gone out on. Other than that it still works great and looks awesome for gaming. I would love getting a new monitor but cant justify spending the cash for an extra 3"-5" and few more pixels. Especially when I got a nice 40" 1080 samsung lcd.

It's a good thing when you really have no issues when gaming on a smaller monitor than what most people have.

I'm currently still on my 1440x900 monitor although I will have to upgrade since it is showing some dead pixels now.

As to the recommended chose of going AMD, I would also vouch for it.
The 955 is so cheap over here that it would be hard to pass up and the mentioned use of a board which can use bulldozer is a great plus.
One thing which AMD always tend to have an edge over Intel, you don't need to upgrade your whole system.

@op-I have the same x2 5600+ with a 9800gt..still running all games in my 1366 x 768 lcd and applications without any issues.
If you don't want to overclock, then get i5 2400 with a H67 mobo. you can save money for gpu.
for your resolution a gts 450 is a nice choice or a hd 5770

the Intel i-series CPUs are far superior to anything AMD has on the market right now. I'd say spend the extra cash and go with the i5.

Don't bother buying an AM3 rig with the idea that it'll tide you over, it won't. You'll have to spend even more money buying a new CPU and mobo eventually, so you may as well just go the whole hog now.
