Catalyst 11.8 Preview driver

so you have this problem to?
I just removed my driver and cleaned it with driver sweeper and reinstalled it
let's see what happens :|

Unless this is only with cat 11.8, make a new thread and explain a little more. any pop-up message from CC? just provide all the info you can think of

I think it was a bad installation which made the driver shut down and restart itself

Getting pretty solid performance with these drivers so far and no issues with an HD 5770.

However, is the anti-aliasing not implemented properly on this driver set? Has anyone else noticed this....Perhaps image quality is a little lower overall as I'm seeing some aliasing in some games that had no issues on previous drivers.

could you provide SS of what you are talking about exactly? If you rollback the drivers do you see the AA working better? try doing SS of the same place with 2 different driver version so we can compare?

If you're sure it's the driver doing it, reinstall 11.7's or 11.6's. I thought 11.6 drivers were pretty solid. Don't bother with a roll back.

Just asking because that was something mentioned as problems in the 11.7 driver notes and was wondering if it made its way to the preview.

I was having bad experiences with 11.6 but 11.8's seem to be an improvement.....However, Im still getting flickering in BC2 but its considerably less then before,

the flickering is a game engine issue with 2 gpus, you will never see it fully fixed by graphics card driver unless you disable a gpu

setting AA to 1x and Bloom to off will lessen the flickering to an extent, but its mostly due to how the game engine handles textures.

the thing is.....I never had that flickering with my crossfired 5850s.

I remember when BC2 was first released and it had this flickering water bug thing but that was just water. Everything flickers!

ive had flickering on 2x 4830s in a buddies rig 2x 4850s in other rig my 2x 5850s 2x 6970s, another guys 5970, and a 4870x2, lol every machine up here ive worked on or built with crossfire on a stick or 2x cards has flicker in BC2, some of them have more then others, 5k cards had far more flickering then the 4k cards, my 6k cards respond to lower AA and no bloom which makes it so only Heavy Metal has flickering, over all its not a driver gpu issue and no a driver issues, its the way Frostbite engine handles texture information and outputs it into the game world. drivers can help with that, but its a game engine issue or as some call it "a feature" lol best drivers ive ever had were 11.4a those worked wonderfully, and i had the least amount of flicker with them, everything else has been about the same more flicker then 11.4 but equal for the most part otherwise.

of course disabling xfire, has always resulted in the flickering stopping for me completely.

speaking of 4870s, I never had the flickering problem with them. It just seems hundred times more noticable with my 6970s

(I totally forgot that i owned a set of 4870s once)

secondly, I didnt spend $920 on graphic cards just to run with one of them turned off

i agree i spent $750 for my 2x 6970s so i dont turn them off either, but it is a game engine issue with how it handles texture data, im hoping BF3 fixes it, otherwise big fail on Dice, lol and a big fail on AMD as well

true be told it was alot cheaper i sold 2x 5850s that did 1k core, so that kinda ment i got 2 cards for the price of 1 but i still had pay newegg so there ya go, eitherway i will agree 6k cards do have more flicker then my 5k cards,

Setting AA to super sampling causes flicker to happen more, servers with the newer maps and longer tickets also have this problem. Get away from those three things and it solves most of the shadow and black screen flicker.

On X58 boards, upping your IOHv can help too and also solves game freezing/lockup problems. BC2 hammers the IOH so any uncore overclocking will show problems really quick.

yea that would make sense except i dont have X58 as for those servers were aware, but even on a plain default untouched server xfire will cause flicker on heavy metal. that map has the problem worse then any other by an extreme amount, then again i avoid it religiously since its a shitty map

I have X58, didn't change IOHV, but my 6870 CF has no problem here. I only play online, but it seems you are talking bout online

I'll try and get some screenies for a comparison. So far I've noticed the difference in Mafia 2, Left 4 Dead 1&2 and BFBC2. I'm not too fussed though, performance is the smoothest I've had for along time with these drivers. I think these are the best I have used with a 5xxx series card. I previously had an HD5870.

You can't make screenshots of MLAA. This method is applied later in the rendering pipeline so anything that looks smooth on your monitor will have jaggies all over the screen on screenshot.
