This is about a 4 month old card that has been working well until yesterday. While playing a game, the screen suddenly went out and i had to reset.

I had checked my cards tempature and notice d it was sky high and I havent been able to cool it off at all since then

I cleaned the entire case, motherboard, card, heat sinks, everything with compressed air. It looks dust free.

All the fans are working fine, and even if i open up the case and use a larger desk fan to help ventilate nothing changes.

its a Win 7 64bit
8gb ram
with a 2.80 gigahertz AMD Phenom II X6 1055T processor
I dont over clock anything on this computer.
I generally play not cpu/card intensive games (League of Legends..etc)

I am using speed fan to monitor temaptures
My computer shows a temp of 35.9 C

Speed fan shows
Temp 1 41C
Temp 2 43C
Temp 3 80C
HD0: 36C
Core: 33C

I had also tried getting the latest drivers to see if that helped, and nothing had changed

What is the temperature of the GPU at idle? Speedfan isn't showing that.

Honestly 80 isn't even that hot for modern video cards.

That is around the temp that my display will freak out, and then blackout

Had this problem in the past contact the compagny where you bought it and return it if posiable. If you can't return the card anymore try to contact ATI and try get a new one there. The more you use this GPU to try and solve the problem the more ATI will go QQ about user abuse.

No, it's abnormal for a 6850 for sure.

Is the fan spinning on the card? Have you tried increasing the fan speed? You may want to try replacing the thermal paste on the GPU, but if you don't want to do that, I would contact support for the cards manufacturer.

It's abnormal but not overly hot. People run these with increased voltages and they can easily reach into the 90s, just check the TPU reviews.

It sounds kind of like OP's card has an issue though. What does it report for fan speed at idle?

It may void warranty if he removes the cooler from the card, depending on which partner made the card.

(rediculous if you ask me....I contacted XFX and they wont even let me remove my coolers to put better paste on)

Ive had this happen when I had my 6850 crossfire setup but it wasnt with the stock heatsink so I just reseated and/or reapplied tim and the temps did go back to normal. It did happen on more than one occasion though.

Fan is spinning, and I have increased the speeds.

I will as soon as possible try to replace the paste.

I using an old disc, installed all old drivers to see if that helps. The tempature is much cooler now at 40C.

But i have been having weird start up problems, where the computer turns on, but nothing occurs, no beeps or anything.

So i am thinking I might have a different and more serious problem.

Thank you for your help
