Like others said your 850w Corsair is plenty enough for your system even on good overclock (with good cooling)

Also like others said move to win7 64bit because XP is to old , why run anything new on a 10 years old OS?

As for the hack of DX10 in XP , sure it will be install in XP but it would never , ever be used no matter what you think games & windows will only use DX9 under XP no matter the DX10 hack ;)

Beside we're at Dx11 now & DX10 wasn't all that good & not much games are made for DX10 anyways...

OMG LOL at this thread... Can I see some of your videos on why you hate Intel please? They have to be instant classics if its anything like I have read in the thread! :)

Next time you build a rig, check here first. Seriously. Its like I trust my 3 y.o to swim in a pool with me right next to him in his floaties, but I woud never let him jump in alone after watchign him try and subsequently choke on pool water.... Same thing here.

Of course, nVidia no longer makes chipsets, so you're SOL there. Now you cna buy AMD chipsets on boards, chips to go into the board, and GPUs to fill the expansion slots. You should be as happy as a pig in...well..you know how that goes..

that sucks if had one ever since nforce2

an now im never shure if its an amd chip set or is it ati?[its says amd but the drivers say ati lol]

both company.s made chipsets before they merged so i duno

Honestly, though, who cares what hardware you prefer. If you're hurting anyone by buying AMD exclusively, its you, so I don't really think it matters. Personally, I like AMD because I was able to upgrade from a S754 Athlon 64 to an AM2+ Phenom II 940 BE in several steps without ever doing a complete rebuild where every main part was replaced. I also like AMD because my preferred brand of graphics cards, ATi, got absorbed so if I want the familiar driver setup and such, that's where I go. Who knows, my next build may be an Intel-Nvidia system. I'm certainly not going to chastise you for your taste in CPU.

As for the chipsets: It's AMD. They even axed the ATi name for graphics cards, the 6XXX series onward are AMD Radeon, not ATi Radeon. Some of their drivers just still have the text strings left behind. In truth, the current AMD chipsets take the best of what AMD and ATi had to offer, all the ATi intellectual property, employees, and products got absorbed - now we get AMD.

For your PSUs -> if you run the PSU at less than (I think 70%-80% is the highest efficiency range) it's "sweet spot" you will be wasting energy, and in some cases with poor PSUs (which you don't have) may actually cause fluctuating voltages. It's completely unneccesary to run two, that said, it doesn't hurt anything either.

and HEY! If MailMan wants to believe that pool water makes him special, well I say; let him believe it.

Oh and PS: Nope, your video cards DO NOT get more power by running two PSUs. There is more power available, but they use what they use, one power supply or seventy. Power (W)=Voltage(v) x Current(a)
12v times 3 amps is 36 watts regardless if the supply is capable of putting out 40 watts or 4000. Just being pedantic lol

ok an a update from me

ok guys so i checked the boards stock coolers as i all ways do an i gota say they did a nice job not perfect but nice all of the power rail chips on top of the board wer tuching perficly an so wer both chipset cores sitting nice an flush but on the under side things arnt to good pads ar to hard an the mounting points make them sit off o one side

both chips set had that nasty normal pink crap on them so i removed it an used as5 dropping both about 3-5c also balanced a power rail cooler under the board a lil better was only half touching

i allso placed a probe for each chipset core

i do know about the efficiency thing 80% i think for the 850 so it may be wasteing a lil power not a worry
an yes the mobo/video will only use what they can i just like the hole idea more power is available

lol so ther like hybrid chipsets makes sence take the best from both worlds

Efficiency for an electrical system not linear. If it is 80+ certified (80+ bronze, silver, gold, etc.) then it has to hit a certain level of efficiency at 20%, 50%, and 100% load. here for more info.

While you are not above the 20% mark at idle, the 850W is well within range at load so efficiency there is fine. Its the 500 W that I am sure is well below 80% efficiency and wasting power it doesn't need to waste. Its not much power so no worries.

The point you keep missing is you do not need 2 power supplies. It does not provide more power to be available because they are not power cells. You are just wasting money with a PSU you do not need and serves no purpose.

But I honestly don't care. Its your computer which is why I am not telling you to remove it. Do what you want. I am just providing information.

And just so you know, AMD has come a long way since your Opteron. There was no need to void your warranty to change the thermal material on your board. They were already below there tolerance range and had plenty of wiggle room with the temps.

sorry for the duble poasts

shhh they dont know i did that lol if the board is as good as it should be the warranty wont be an ishew it should live well past its warranty [like my dfi has]

i agrea the temps wer well within safe ranges but thers no temp on the power rail so how would you know if the conection is good or not with out looking [i have sent boards back to asus with as5 on chip set before] they allways replaced them i think they look more for damage not changed heat paste

and with my probes i now know exact sb/nb temps i might stick one in the power rail later on

its not amd im worried about its the assemblers at asus [ i have got boards before with heat sinks not sitting rite like my a8n sli premium did 75c on stock chipset cooler cus it barley touched the core] a simple mod got it down to 35-40c [its evin older then my dfi]

Lol, i took a look at your videos, and i must say, you have serious issues. You hate Intel becouse of the stock heatsink design. I mean hello, you can buy a tray chip, without the cooler. Oh and intel processors dont squeek, its your motherboards that do that.

Benchmark Scores I don't benchmark.
shhh they dont know i did that lol if the board is as good as it should be the warranty wont be an ishew it should live well past its warranty [like my dfi has]

i agrea the temps wer well within safe ranges but thers no temp on the power rail so how would you know if the conection is good or not with out looking [i have sent boards back to asus with as5 on chip set before] they allways replaced them i think they look more for damage not changed heat paste

and with my probes i now know exact sb/nb temps i might stick one in the power rail later on

its not amd im worried about its the assemblers at asus [ i have got boards before with heat sinks not sitting rite like my a8n sli premium did 75c on stock chipset cooler cus it barley touched the core] a simple mod got it down to 35-40c [its evin older then my dfi]

Asus is now one of, if no, the top manufactures right now. I don't care about what your stuff did half a decade ago. We are working in the here and now. Now Asus quality is nearly impeccable. And to avoid going down the tubs like DFI, any company will find any reason to not RMA a board. They will check to see if parts have been removed, but I digress.

You have to stop basing your "ideas" on information from 5 to 7 years ago.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Lol, i took a look at your videos, and i must say, you have serious issues. You hate Intel becouse of the stock heatsink design. I mean hello, you can buy a tray chip, without the cooler. Oh and intel processors dont squeek, its your motherboards that do that.

This thread is a little different!

I checked out some of the videos... You seem to have plenty of older tech running in your house/apt. so I would think you're really enjoying your new CHV motherboard and x4 955 cpu combo! Now when bulldozer finally releases you could pop one in and be rockin!

as far as asus quality goes im still iffy we have had doa.s at the shop brand new boards in undamaged boxes not recently but as close as last year they were cheaper asus boards an yes i know all about dif.s fall out an y my store used to get dfi.s alot then we had rma ishews an they died to often now its mostly asus an some times the odd biostar or sumthing unless some one orders a msi or sumthing

i have never rilly had a prob with asus rma wise just some of there stock coolers ar a lil cheesy
like stock systems running chipset temps of 50c with cpu temps of like 35c

an i just resinly built a P8Z68-V system at work an damn it ran hot 65c cpu temp[cooler was on proper an fan set to 100%] inbios quad 3gh i think it 8mb cash stock cooler intel lol board temps were 45c ish south bridge i could not hold my finger on so maby 65-70c all at stock settings
