My old build only have 500GB Seagate. It just isnt enough for what I need. Saw this on sale at newegg for 89.99. Is this a good drive? Is it OK to run HDD of different brand together? Thank you!

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1502FAEX 1.5TB 7200...

yeah

looks to be fast

looks to be high capacity

so go for it

and yes, you can run any brand of hard drive as they function independently from each other, you could even raid 2 different brands although i wouldn't recommend it

Lose 1 TB of information by raiding two drives. What?

Two quick points. One, xkm1948 obviously is new to computers. Raid is likely beyond their abilities, given the question being asked. Two, they don't seem to know much about HDDs so I'm guessing advice on formatting is needed.

Xkm1948, you can use two drives. There are some questions to ask yourself first.
1) Do I have a SATA power connector free on my PSU?
2) Do I have a SATA connection free on my motherboard?
3) What OS am I running?

1 and 2 are basic questions that you must ask everyone that is just starting up. 3 is targetted to the formatting. Windows 7 does an excellent job detecting and initializing a drive. XP is somewhat less friendly. Shoot me a PM if you need any help there.

Otherwise, answer 1 and 2 (presumably with a yes) before buying a new HDD. If you did answer 1 and 2, then the drive you linked to will be a fine choice.

no, i just used that as an example of how irrelevant the make and model of a hard drive is

raid is a bad idea for speed, capacity and reliability in this case
