Depends. If your GTO is unlocked to the full 16 pipes and you dont play a lot of Shader Model 3 games, then you should probably stick to the GTO. It'll preform better in most games. However, If you play a lot of Shader Model 3 games and really want HDR, and it isn't unlocked, I would either sell it and buy a x1800 GTO (if you can find) or a x1900 gt. Though honestly, I'm not a big fan of the x1600 cards (x1650 is alright).

Can you post the prices of the cards your looking at so we help you out a little more. Sorry I didn't know you lived in Romania and not the USA. Are you looking at PCI-E or AGP?

My advice: Stay away from SAPPHIRE... RMAing my X800GTO right now. Worked great for 8 months, then out of the blue one day pink artifacts all over my screen. Have since read of many other people having more problems with SAPPHIRE than other brands.

Personally? If you want an ATi card, stick to the ATi brand cards. Also heard good things about POWERCOLOR.

with only 12 pipes u might be better off in the long term with the x1600 Xt.
also the the 128 bit memory bus is going to limit your frames in high res.

i also have a saphhire x800 gto gives me problems. check the sapphire forums to see if people have problems with that model of x1600 xt.

I had the same thing with my club3d 6600gt, had to RMA it twice lol :wtf: :wtf:
The pc shop guy told me that club3d 6600gt line is fukked and they (club3d) didnt even have a card to sent me for 3 moths cuz every1 was Rma'ing they're 6600 gt's, wich BTW is a really nice card.

anyways I would go with 1600XT: newer card, new architecture, and SM 3.0

WHAT I AM INTERESTED IN IS THE GAMING PERFORMANCE ON X1600XT...I'VE HEARD IT SUCKS.... SOOOOOOOOO??

i have the exact x1600 you are talking about. its an expensive paperweight. you will definately have better performance from the x800. i had an x800xt, and when i got an x1600xt i was sorely disappointed.

The X800GTO has the raw power advantage compared to a X1600XT. The only advantage the X1600XT has over the X800GTO is SM3 and pixel shading power. I have both a X800GTO and a sapphire X1600XT engineering sample and in most cases the X800GTO is faster.

no, the speeds are fine, it is gddr3.

what really kills it is the fact that it only has 4 pixel pipelines and a 128 bit bus...:shadedshu

as far as i know it has 12 pixel pipeline...

thats what everyone thinks.
thats even what newegg reports it as.
its really a 4 pipe card with 3 shaders per pipe... 4x3=12 :nutkick:

if they would give the x1600xt 4 more pipes i bet it could compete with the best of them...

Its not that the x1600 is a bad card its just not as powerfull as the card you have. The thing is that its newer and can play these games that you can't play. It has HDR for one I messed up my x1600pro and went to a 800XT. The 800XT is faster but in ways I liked the x1600pro better.

That is how the X1K series works.
My X1950Pro is 12x3 = 36 Pixel Shaders
