Sandybridge-E delayed again? - old article, sorry!

Oh skippity joy joy. The link below explains it. I think they saw the BD results and thought, "Good, no need to rush out E while SB is doing fine all by itself."

Does this mean Ivybridge will be even later?

Isn't SB-E intended for workstations and servers, where the target market of BD is as well?
I mean, I have no idea what is the performance of BD Opterons, but if it's enough to make Intel delay SB-E...fine by me.
Also, isn't the Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge architecture different from the SB-E/IB-E?
If so, it shouldn't be delayed.
The VT-d bug is only affecting SB-E parts, IIRC.

You mean as in, SB worked? (Chipset problems aside).

I don't know enough about cpu architecture but the pin count alone indicates the major differences (quad memory). However, SB-E at latest rumour point has no PCI-e 3 and has other issues.

I'm going to be honest, I didn't read the article you linked before I posted, but that news is 3 months old. There should something else, by now, either proving or countering what is said there.
Sandy Bridge only had problems with the chipsets. IIRC, there was nothing else.
Having no PCI-e 3.0 in the server market is not much of an issue.
Remember, LGA 2011 is going to replace LGA 1366, both intended for server/workstation markets. Having those as enthusiast parts are a bonus. So is BD, but AMD got silly with the marketing.

They saw that there was no need to rush production and can release it when it's done.
There were rumors of some problems wti SB-E. If that were true, they can now take the time to squash any bugs and have a smooth release.

Sandybridge is still more than enough for most applications anyway. Our modern processors are a generation or two ahead of our software.
