I have just purchased an MSI Z68A-GD80 G3 motherboard to run my new 2600K CPU on.

In quite a retarded fashion however, I have purchased the wrong type of RAM for the board due to me believing that all i7s took DDR3 Triple Channel.

I am now therefore on the lookout for solid gaming DDR3 dual channel RAM.

8Gb is a prerequisite.

Any recommendations?

Throw that extra stick and run what you have. Or if you have sold that, then just get any 1600Mhz ram with whatever timings, that seems to be the sweet spot for Sandy Bridge.

Somehow, I wouldnt have thought that would be a fantastic idea, considering I would inherit all the disadvantages of the higher latencies and get none of the advantages of the RAM running in triple channel.

Or am I wrong?

(I have alread got an RMA number for the triple channel RAM)

Not much reason to OC RAM on Sandybridge. I mean you just set the speed and be done with it. You got 1600 you set it to 1600, job done.

LOL at gaming ram there is no such thing as gaming ram, ram is just ram nothing makes it for games. Any of the brand names at 1.5v or less, 1600mhz and anything thats CL9 or better depending on price.

Depends on what you want to spend but have a look at this G.Skill Sniper stuff with 1.25v, its $49.99 and less voltage than the Corsair someone else recommended.

G.SKILL Sniper Low Voltage Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 24...

Free shipping and a free 4gb SD card, hey its free.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention check cooler height and ram heatspeader height

Well, if its running at least 1600Mhz and 9-9-9-27 then you would have hit the sweet spot for Sandy Bridge. Since that you have an RMA ticket, don't bother then :)
