Ebay might have a few replacement boards floating around.

as for an entirely different motherboard....the likelyhood of that is so low the answer is might as well be no.

it would be HARD to find a different board which matches up all the USB, VGA, HDMI and other ports to the laptop chassy. you could contact Toshiba and ask them. but the likelyhood of them being able to tell you or telling you anything about it at all as side from asking you to RMA your laptop for repairs is pretty low too.

just find a board with the same model number and replace it.

Also I hope you know what your doing because my sister just recently messed up her own laptop by doing more or less doing the same thing. She thought she could fix it herself by opening it up when she doesnt know the first thing about turning the damn thing on.

laptops can be very delicate to work with, so its good to know what youre doing before you touch anything

Hmm I somehow knew I would get that answer..

Ive been inside the laptop quite a few times without harming it after it broke down, and its been in 4 or 5 times for repairs. The Gpu (8600M) failed 2 or 3 times and a power chip also failed once. All this only the last year.. :(
sad to see the laptop just lying there growing spider webs

You could see if you can find a new/used (working) mobo on ebay. Sometimes you get lucky and can get one for pretty cheap.

Already searched ebay - theres people selling repair services for that particular laptop and the odd component for it. but none of them are motheboards.

From a little re-search it would seem that the G40's are built with design faults which can either render the laptop completely dead/useless or make it start throwing up loads of BSODs.

Its something to do with the Nvidia chipset that, that particular laptop has.

I dont know when you bought the laptop or how long youve used it. but G40's came out in 2007 - its earned its retirement.

I had an old laptop that i bought in 2006 that i had been using until just recently. Paid for a few minor repairs on it then i sold it off to someone who only needed something for facebook, youtube and wordprocessing. not a bad retirement for something i spent hours playing guildwars or Call of Duty and a few other games on. for most of its service life.

something 10x more powerful then that G40 can be had for such little money these days. Its not worth keeping it on if it needs quite a big repair job
