hi, i'm looking into building a gaming rig. unfortunately i'm not up to date on all this new technology.
my current pc is an asus mb with a 3.6 ghz intel pent 4 with HT. has 2 gb of ram. 1.2 TB of hdd space. ATI radeon x1600 with 512mb Video memory.

it's fine and all but i'm having major stability problems with several games, and programs.

i've been looking at i core motherboards but i really don't know what i'm looking at.
what i want is a motherboard without on board video or sound.
i want the system to be 64 bit. i'll be running sata drives.
if some one knows of a reasonable priced board with good performance outta the box i'd appreciate the heads up. like i said, i've been looking but things have moved forward so fast i have no idea what i'm looking at anymore... lol.
i'd like my gaming rig to be some what future proof. i.e expandable, upgrade-able.
i'm not really looking at overclocking the cpu or anything.
sorry if i rambled. adhd sucks... lol

couple of things that are really going to help with advise for you.

Guys will need a budget of the build. You are going to need the board, CPU, and memory with this.

you may also want to express what sort of games/programs (in case a graphics card is also in your future).

Basically anything released in the last year or 3 is going to blow the doors off what you are used to now, so having these extra bits of info will keep people advising more on what you need for the amount you can afford:)

I can tell you right off the bat that you won't be able to find any half decent motherboard that does not come with integrated audio. And like sneekypeet said, if you gave us a budget to work with, I'm sure we can come up with something you'll like.

Budget: i plan on buying parts as i can afford them so really budget isn't so important. this will be a gaming rig so i'm not going to be loading it up with a bunch of unnecessary software.

i prefer ati cards to nvidia since nvidia cards sometimes have issues with surfaces.

as far as games go, i'm looking to play oblivion, fallout 3, fallout:nv, skyrim, MAME, witcher 2, farcry, crysis. i'm into fps and rts games so maybe some total war games.

k. that's fine. i can always disable it in bios, same with integrated video.

I would suggest you look at Socket 1155 CPUs and boards to get you into a group of things to feast your eyes on!

Just save up all the way for the core components and buy them all at once so you at least have a functional PC. Buy the high-end cooling and graphics cards later if you can get by with stock cooling and the integrated video. Buying as you save just costs more money, unless you find great deals that can offset value depreciation over time.

This one seems promising it has the 1155 socket. i'm not interested in a raid array but i figure it's probably standard issue on mb now.

and here's an asus one. same price but i can't tell which one is better.... lol. i'm getting old/ left behind.

yeah the asus seems better then the intel board. i looked at supported ram speeds and the asus supports 1600, 1333 and 1066mhz speeds where as the intel one only supports the last two.
i'll check the link you added.

EDIT: nice board random. cheaper then the two i was looking at and the bios sounds promising. looks very good.
