PS4 and Next Xbox Games Entering Early Development Stage. (Not Fully Confirmed)

According to Develop, sources within Sony's internal studio structure have confirmed that first-party teams have begun "preliminary work" on PS4 games. The projects are reportedly in an early stage of development, with Develop's sources indicating that several teams could enter full production immediately, pending approval by Sony.

The report did not indicate which of Sony's 16 internal studios have teams working on PS4 game development. The SCE Worldwide Studios label houses such development outfits as Sony Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Zipper Interactive, Guerrilla Games, Evolution Studios, and Polyphony Digital.

Sony had not responded to a request for comment as of press time.

It is also rumored that the system itself is supposed to be coming sometime in 2013, but of course take this with a grain of salt as there have been lots of PS4 release date rumors in the past.

I hope the next gen consoles come sooner rather than later. It makes sense that devs are gearing up for them. Wonder when we'll hear about M$'s devs working on next gen Xbox titles.

Next Xbox to be Unveiled and Launched in 2013 - Report

This was just posted today too:

A report by Develop based on numerous sources suggests the third Xbox will be unveiled at E3 in 2013. The system will then be launched several months later across much of the world; the possibility of this slipping into early 2014 was acknowledged as a possibility.

It's not just Microsoft that's ramping up development for its next console, either. A source has told Develop that multiple Sony first-party studios have begun working on PlayStation 4 games. That's not to say they're anywhere near done or would be launching in the next year or two; there was no indication that a PS4 would be out sooner than 2014, which falls in with what we heard earlier this year about a launch in 2014.

Microsoft might be preparing for a respond, but again, it still not 100%.

Hmm I just wouldn't know what to think of the consoles. Graphically they may just be on par with PCs from today. And I somehow have the feeling they didn't squeeze out as much as possible from current gen. I sincerely hope its not gonna be something like a Playstation 3S... We need super leaps forward again, not tiny update steps.

I'm not in a huge hurry for the new consoles. I don't even want to think of how much they will cost at release. I'll buy the PS4 first for sure and the new Xbox afterwards. But I still think our current consoles have life in them and games are still coming out that are pushing the systems further. The only downside to the new consoles releasing later than sooner is it really is holding back PC games but still...I'm fine with that. (I play way more PC titles than both my consoles put together)

I do look forward to seeing what they can do. I bet we won't see them till 2014.

according to Pachter it won't be called the PS4 because 4 is an unlucky number in Japan so expect a silly name like the Vita.
