can you think a bit? $500 gets you a 2500k with a maximus IV extreme. do i really need to explain how much better that combo is? because you already said you know at least half this stuff.

Dont see the point when ive already got x58. The x58 is still pretty bad ass if u ask me. I bought the x58 when they first came out the saw results of the sandy- bridges and wasnt all that impressed. The only thing i would replace is my q9550 with an 2500k. U still havent said how much u would pay 4 an 990x?

I'm not expecting you to donate, I want you to keep your money LOL

500$ is just too much, you an get an i7 970 at 380$, which is a much better deal if you want hex. Even 450$ is a bit much, but OK if it OCs @ 4.2+ with low voltage

P.S: Me liking my money to be spent efficiently, I don't give it to anyone who will spend it on Beer/Pot/Drugs :p

you shouldn't pay anything for it. turn back the page to see anand's results. sandy is not only better with B3 stepping, but it's also more suited with lower thermals. if you're only going to get a Gulfy, then get the 970. it's your real bet. or else you'd be burning your money. or listen to us and move over to Sandy or maybe wait for Ivy.

we give suggestions here, but the guy doesnt listen and goes on his own way. thats his loss. though, you made up your mind before opening this thread so you'll just be wasting our time. yeah.

i'm repeating, i wouldn't pay anything for it because it's sort of a waste of money. please listen, if you want to keep your mobo, get a i7 970. the non-extreme version oc's just as good and goes for cheaper.

You could also buy nothing... i7 920/30 @ 4~4.2 is already pretty damn amazing

I suggest perhaps buying SSDs and/or more RAM, faster and more RAM, better RAD pump or anything like that, peripherals like mouse/keyboard/sound card/headphones/chair/desk.

If your 27" is 1080p maybe go eyefinity, or upgrade to a 27" IPS/PLS(samsung) 2560x1440/1600, if you want to go even further, you can eyefinity that.

ANYTHING but a 500$ CPU that you don't need :p

Seriously though, why even consider an i7 990X before an SSD?

P.S: I guess bad things haven't happened to me :p But I donate because I feel it is my duty to do it, nothing more

i7 990X doesn't do 5Ghz easy... It does 4.4Ghz max most of the time, while the 970 does 4.2

You aren't going to miss the 200 Mhz

...and a better cpu will make a major difference over your 4.2 930, true? most gulftowns (extreme or no) oc to 4.5. you certainly shouldn't pay more for the 990 over a 970. in fact, you'll see bigger gains from adding a third 6970 to your setup. it'll benefit your games more than anything else

OMG if this is a gaming rig only, then it is crazy to even consider a 990X o.o

The i5 2500K eats the i7 990X for desert, and can get to 5Ghz sometimes, not to mention it is easy to OC and performs better in games and has Ivy coming as an upgrade path. You could also go 4-core LGA 2011 if you want the PCI-E lanes and the better upgradability (and the Xtreme processors)

The i7 990X is the best OCing chip for X58, maybe, but 5Ghz is probably not stable clock, and if it is, it isn't very common at all...

get one more 6970. actually, ditch that too. go for a 6990 to quad-fire. it can handle it all. things will be much faster that way.

lol....

I do understand that but atm i can add a third card. Ok heres the deal. I have a p6t deluxe right but then i bought a spare board(g1 guerrilla) 4 the components and it supports tri-fire. I was thinking of dogging a nice hex core and overclocking the shit out of it and maybe sum new cards to go with it(ati 7000 series). Ahhhh this is all to much.

Sell the mobo you like less... Problem solved!

The value of the mobo is going to drop drastically in 2~3 weeks anyways, might as well save you some money by selling the mobo now

^ GG g1 is a waste. it doesnt offer much over your mobo aside from gaming gimmicks. if you can sell those stuff, i'd do it to move over sandy. it can be had for cheap and will outperform. that's why it's good. if no, then you can get a 970 with one more card. really. then use the g1. might as well make use of it

also sandy is a better choice in any way due to its lower profile.

You do get that for 150$ LESS, you can a CPU + Mobo (vs just a CPU) that is less power hungry and that has higher FPS in games right?

Say you sell your mobo for 150$, than you just saved 300$ over buying an i7 990X

idk about you , but that is eating the i7 990X for me. Also you seem to like high Ghz... note that the i5 2500K is almost GUARANTEED to EAT the i7 990X in OCing

Than get SB-E, but buying a chip with the excuse that you just bought a mobo is not very smart. Sell the mobo you like the least and save your damn money.
