Recommend a videocard please.

Well, my 8800GT just died and I need a new videocard. Can someone recommend me something in the price range of $100-$250. I need a good bang for a buck..and I need a card that can play BF3. Any help would be appreciated!

i'd get a 470...

Galaxy 70XKH3HS8GUX GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB...

once heavily oc'ed, it can perform like a 480

great, balanced cards. for 200w tdp against 250-300 of those 580&480s. built on fermi gpu with more ROPs, wider memory bus, more vram.

I baked a card one time. a 7600gt that had artifacts. A couple of caps fell off afterwords. I never was much of a cook :laugh:

lol yea i've seen that happen (thankfully not to my 8800GT) which way was the gpu facing in the oven? i think it has to be face up along with the caps and the temp at about 385-400 and perfectly level... and only 15-20min. afterwords just turn off the oven, slowly open it but don't even touch or move the card or pan its in for a good hour.

I have this card 3 days now and everthing i play gets eaten by this card,
Its the sapphire 6950 2gb and if you want you can turn it into a 6970 for a cheap price

You can try Gigabyte GTX560Ti for BF3, you can have high quality for BF3. It is mt own experience~~~ btw, gigabyte's cards is very quiet and good at his fan's design.

The minimum recommended power supply for a GTX 470 is 550W - which is what he has. His would be fine if left at stock clocks (if its not too old). You really wouldn't want to overclock the card with that power supply to reach the performance levels your speaking of. He'd probably be better off with a GTX 560 Ti (if he wanted to stay with Nvidia).

Its a good buy though - wish that deal were around a month ago for myself! :ohwell:

BF3 uses a ton of VRAM, somewhere around 1-1.2GB on High, so splurging for a card with at least that much will yield noticable performance gains.
