Tech Gifts for $200 or less?

My boss is trying to decide what to give away at the company christmas party this year and asked for any ideas I might have. He was thinking about the Kindle Fire, which sells for about $200. I don't think he'd want to spend more than that though. Can anyone think up any interesting tech gadgets to give away? We were looking to possibly do this shopping during black friday/cyber monday.

Yeah at that price point Kindle Fire was my first thought too. Maybe an MP3 player? Though most people have one already if they want one at all.

I guess we'll just go with the Kindle Fire. I thought it was a pretty good idea, just wanted to see if anyone here thought of anything better. Anyone have a suggestion of where to order it? I don't see it on NewEgg and need about 50 of them. I was hoping to order through NewEgg to avoid having sales tax.

As much as I would enjoy that, I think he's looking to give out something like the Kindle Fire that more or less everyone could use. Does anyone know the best place to order them online? Everything I keep checking says stores only at the moment.

I'm not having any luck either. I tried to contact NewEgg and see if it would be in stock anytime in the near future. They weren't able to provide me with any information though.

only thing i have found is purchases through amazon with amazon.com gift cards dont pay tax. so there could possibly be a loophole

Yeah I think it's just direct from Amazon which would make sense as this "tablet computer" is mainly a means to sell more of their content. However, that is also why it's only $199. It's no iPad and such but it's also half the price...

Holy crap that blows. Is that due to a law of some sort or do they have a physical presence in NYC? I don't have to in Chicago. Though, at this point, Illinois asks you to claim anything you've bought online that have not paid tax on when you pay income taxes. Essentially the honor system. I don't quite like it but what do you think I do? I'd like paying hundreds for the last years purchases even less and I'd have to keep records of it to boot so I could give them "their" money. Sorry but eff that.

Anyway, regardless of what the gift is, $200 per employee is nice. Especially these days and in this economy.

There are ways around this...

If you trust someone out of state, they can serve as a delivery point. If the delivery point, of say North Carolina, does not have to pay taxes on Amazon then you're kosher.

Either find someone in a different state that you trust, or you have to swallow the tax. I might be a resident of the previously implied state, but trusting someone blindly is often a bad idea...

Is there a way of finding out which states are exempt so I could try and think up a person?
