Hey guys,

I am in a bit of a dilemma, I am wondering whether 3D wise I'd lose any immersion by downgrading to a 24" monitor from my 27". The size difference is definitely quite significant in real life despite the numbers, although I am tossing up between two 120hz monitors right now and am not sure whether to spend the extra money for the larger one or save money and stick with a smaller but adequate monitor as the gap in the prices are quite large.

These are the monitors I chose:

23.6" - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=558_1210&products_id=16166

27" - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=558_1210&products_id=18347

Haha there's that, I've heard there is a bit of crosstalk on the bigger Samsung 27 inch one in 3D mode, isn't that a pretty big flaw for a 3D monitor?

I don't have a 27" though I do have a 23.6" (Samsung) and if anything I would opt for bigger, so I think you will miss the size if you downsize

Personally once you go to a bigger monitor it feels HUGE.
But when you go to a smaller monitor the screen feels really small.

I say always upgrade the size of the monitor.

My Brother has an ACER 3D monitor and I think it is a 27"
He has no problems with it.

He pretty much bought it when it was first released.
3D movies are great on it.
3D games can sometimes get a bad ghost image though.

Awesome well that solves my size issue, although what do you guys think of the Samsung that I linked? Should I try to find a cheaper one with better price/perf ratio? or is this as good as it gets?

I can not vouch for Samsung as a potential monitor due to personal experience with the brand and knowing the amount of returns on other Samsung components.

Personally though the looks of the monitor is to my taste but still would look and see what other brands have to offer within your area.

dunno, depends on the specs.
i have a 1080P 27'' monitor(see system specs) and must it is pretty nice , but i recommand 125% dpi, or els everything will be to small
i also have a budget 24'' screen and it is a lot nicer, contrast and stuff, but a love my big 27'' and in games it looks almost as good as my 27'' compared to my 24''

Go with the 27", trust me you wont regret it, when it comes to 3D monitors, the more real estate the monitor has, the better it'll cover your field of view, and the better the 3D experience will be.

To me the only thing going for a smaller monitor is its lower price.

EDIT:

Awesome well that solves my size issue, although what do you guys think of the Samsung that I linked? Should I try to find a cheaper one with better price/perf ratio? or is this as good as it gets?

I have an Acer 27" 3D monitor, and a Samsung 58" 3D Plasma TV, they both are top notch in terms of image quality, brightness, color reproduction and response time, haven't had any experience with LG, so I cannot vouch for their products, but the Samsung monitor you linked should be a good choice, and the price is too good to be true ;)

The purpose? If it's for watching some hd multimedia with 3d bluray then go for 27, it's nobrainer. For anything else ... *shrug* overkill

A friend of mine has a 23.6" 3D and I wouldn't give up my non-3D 27" for his monitor. It's nice to have 3D, but it doesn't always look the best in many games, it's something I would use for side scrolls and such more often. So I would either go for the 27" 3D or just keep your current monitor.

okay well thank you guys it's been a while but I've finally been able to sell my current monitor, so hopefully I can get some good deals for a 27" tomorrow.

I remember my brother went from a 15" monitor to a 19" and it was a bigger difference than you would think.

Im not a fan of massive monitors at a desk, to me 23"-24" is the perfect size BUT in this case i agree with your choice of 27" because now your used to the bigger size it might be harder to adjust to a smaller size and you might feel like you missed out.

LOL Tigger, that "spawn" guy is sponsored or at least tests the Zowie Gear. Ive got a Zowie Celeritas keyboard and thats how i know. I see the same guys pop up now and again when im looking at products, they must get tons of free stuff.

I'd say go for the bigger monitor as well. I've got a 26" regular 1920x1200 60Hz one and it's brilliant. My 120Hz one is 23.6" and is small (see specs).

I'm not keen on that particular Samsung though, for two reasons:

1 All Samsung monitors have flashing power lights on standby, which drives me nuts :banghead:

2 That offset stand looks a bit camp to me

I certainly prefer the smaller stand lol, I am a Samsung fan I've got quite a few products from them and never had a problem although I am not an expert with monitors but so far the availability of 27" 3D monitors is very limited and anything after the samsung 27" 3D starts adding up to around 700+ AUD

EDIT: Reason I prefer the smaller base is that it would be more practical for a multi monitor setup or for my desk real estate. Also I am getting the S27A not the T version as I heard it does not put out real 120hz and the main reason I am upgrading is because of the 120hz.

i love my samsung monitor and tv... but i've had to replace the caps on the tv and my old monitor (a 226bw)@ a customers home...

i'm expecting my T260 to go anytime as i've had it over a year.... but as long as every other componant is quality and lasts i dont mind getting the soldering iron out...

its usually 3 caps that go...

I'd take the S27A750 (first one) hands down. That one looks really nice. I take it the flashing standby light doesn't bother you then?

I think around our series 226BW 931BW, the caps they used were really crap.
Replaced the caps and away it went, although most people would just throw them out.
Plus easy monitors to get in to.
Did you noticed burn marks on the plastic covering on the back of the power supply PCB?
There are these vent looking things at the back of the monitor but they don't have any holes.

OP

If you are going to go Samsung, hopefully either the quailty of the CapXon (their choice of capacitor in their monitors) caps are up to standard or they have moved to another brand.

As for your choices, I personally wold go for the monitor with the small base.
Both of them have thin non-intrusive bezel which is important IMO.

I tend to go for a resolution first, then get the smallest size monitor for that res. The pixel pitch will be a lot smaller and less amount of AA will smooth out the aliasing. Let's you have some extra frames. But if you want big, go for it. Just personal preference. I hate jaggies!

I'm dying for a 24" 2560x1600 120hz :love:ms AMOLED display. Hell my laptop display is a 17" 1920x1200. Makes other screen's pixels look like cinder blocks to me. Sigh...
