I have a build that I have put together on my wishlist from newegg and was wondering if this sounded like a good build for the price. I plan on building this myself; this will be my first computer build ever. Fortunately, my uncle builds computers so I'm not a complete noob with this kind of stuff but sometimes experience outweighs knowledge. Any help or suggestions would be great! BTW I'm on a budget of around $900 but I would prefer to hang around $850 max.

Here's a list of parts im getting so far.

I would certainly change that PSU. The PSU is one of, if not THE, most important things in your PC. A bad cheap one can go bad and take out the rest of the system rather easy.

Good makes include seasonic, Corsair, and PC Power and Cooling (I think that is the right brand, though I may be wrong).

The rest of the build looks ok.. though as with every computer build, what are you going to do with it?

You could even go with a Corsair 650TX Its about the same price when on sale. What do you want this to do? Game?

I would change the HS also.
Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler

In fact I would go Intel i5 2500K

Thanks for the help guys, I'm intending this build specifically for gaming. Sadly I don't have the budget to get something really awesome but I'm sure this will do for the most part.

Microcenter has Intel 2500K on sale this week for $149. That's a way more powerful CPU than you've selected--if you live near a Microcenter.

Drop the HS and fan. Use stock for now. Add a 6870 instead. You will be much happier

honestly everything looks great with the few exceptions noted i would swap motherboards to

ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s US...

990fx chipset for future upgrades and only 25 bucks more? great deal IMHO then substitute your cpu @ 140 to this for 119$ save a few bucks

AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket A...

I swapped to the mobo and cpu that you recommended and I can honestly say that what you told me was very helpful. I always knew about the Fx-4100 but I completely forgot about it. Thanks!

I ditched the HS and fan like you said but I do have one question. Which brand of 6870 would be best as far as price/performance ratio goes?

I decided to choose the Corsair Gs 700, I was gonna be happy with the 600 but I may in the future use dual gpu's so I guess it would be best to have the wattage available for that time. Thank you guys very much for all the help!
I also have one more question regarding the NZXT M59 case. Is it possible to mount a disc drive in the top bay without causing it to obstruct the area for a fan to go in the top of the case? I noticed that the disc drive protrudes out alot and is blocking the space to put the fan in. Also if mounting the disc drive on a lower bay is an option, then is there anyway to remove the disc drive cover that is pre-installed on the top bay? I would like to just use one of the normal bay covers to cover that hole up after I remove it.

Yes! In the top slot, even my shorter DVD drive blocked the holes for the fans closest to the optical bay.

I think that's the only major drawback to that case. My wife and dad both have the same case. I may just end up putting my disc drive on the second from the top bay and maybe put something else in the top like a digital temp gauge or something in the future, I dunno yet lol. But I would like to be able to remove that disc drive cover if possible. I hate it anyway even if it wasn't blocking anything lol.

I would get a TX650 v2 instead of the GS700. It's actually cheaper right now on sale and the GS is a lower end range than TX. The TX V2 are 80+ Bronze (the GS700 is plain jane 80+) The TX650 v2 is only down a few amps on the +12V rail.

Actually I just checked and right now even the TX750 v2 is on sale and less than the GS700. Oh it keeps getting better the TX650 v2 and TX750 v2 are free shipping right now too.

I say get the TX750 v2 esp if it's cheaper than the GS700 and has free shipping right now.

$10 more gets you the Phemon II X6. You'd be silly to pass up on it.

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Socket AM3 12...

If this is a gaming build the 6770 is grossly underpowered.

You really don't want anything slower than a 6790 or 6850.

Edit: Changed your spec ignore above.

Yeah, but, I'd rather high up the budget to get something proper than to limit myself to a lowly CPU with a high TDP. He already moved up to 990FX over a Phenom setup so Sandy isn't far ahead. If he was getting an Athlon X4 or something, I'd have agreed. But he wants to CF/SLi in the future. He will make use of a better CPU.
