OFFICIAL Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim (Discussion)

just fyi if anyone missed it, regarding mining:

if you start mining and just leave it, you'll get 1-3 ores and possibly a gem. every 3 hits may or may not produce an ore. if however you move away after every third hit, and start over - you'll get 3x ore and possibly a gem every time. every 3rd hit WILL produce an ore. it's a neat little trick to get more ore i thought :)

I love how useless magic is, so hard playing my caster even with the mod that improves damage. Blow my entire mana bar then have to line of sight tough things to kill, ends up taking 5 min to kill those huge dwarven robots, same level on my warrior took me 10 seconds. Might be the fact that no vendor in my game has even restocked a damn mana potion.

So true, well I've sort of overcome this issue with by enchanting fortify destruction on my armour so that my spells cost a lot less to cast but now I am finding it quite overpowered that I've had to bump the difficulty up.

With one-handed already maxed my tactic is hitting them with spells/arrows from afar and then switching to melee to kill them, since I would most probably have used up my magicka already and my reload speed isn't exactly blinding quick yet. But we're getting there.

LOL! Sexchange indeed!

That's great to know. I'm looking for Ebony Ore, dam hard to find.

I know a place which is littered with ebony ore although you'll have to tolerate the Orcs unwelcoming dialogues. Got around 35 ores from this place in one run but haven't been back since local shopkeepers/smiths have started selling them.

Yeaht thats what I fiigured would happen, seems magic will be completely useless, or extremely OP. I've basically resorted to cheating with my bodyguard, on my warrior I have had 1 bodyguard die ever and I'm level 30. On my Mage I'm level 12 and I think Uthgerd has died probably at least 20 times. Because I run out of mana and resort to line of sighting, but she stays out there and just dies. So I have resurrected her numerous times as I have low Stamina so my carry weight is low and I need her. Plus if I didn't res her, I would have gone through all bodyguards in the game by now.

Shemales in Skyrim?

Uthgerd died when I killed inside the inn that guy who made the contract with the Dark Brotherhood to kill the emperor. She was a friend though so I got some "inheritance" from killing her.

So on legitreviews about the 11.11b drivers it's stated:

Elder Scrolls Skyrim Improvements:

Delivers AMD CrossFire performance scaling for AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series
AMD Radeon HD 5000 CrossFire support will be supported soon in an updated driver

Source.

Meaning apparently this driver brings Skyrim improvements only for the AMD 6xxx series.

However, on AMD's site nothing about this is mentioned?

This article applies to the following configuration(s):

but it's a vague list - it could mean batman & battlefield have 5xxx but no 6xxx improvements, etc. could. idk for sure. they are saying the update includes patches for these soft and hardwares, but not necessarily that they are mutually inclusive of both.

I can confirm 11.11b drivers also give me weird in-game behavior... I've reverted back to 11.10...

Still waiting on AMD to do their Job (and/or Bethesda...)

Glad I didn't install itc. I'm doing fine with the Oblivion crossfire profile even with 11.11a.

Yeah Kurgan that's why I just torch them til I run out of mana then hack them to death (though I get you have been trying to play straight mage).

I noticed this as well, I was planning on becoming like a spellsword type character but magic was just a waste of time, they've made the spells cost to much IMO at the end of the game I imagine magic could be handy but it's such a chore doing it that well, I'm not bothering.

Switched over to to the bow and never looked back, thing can wreck a room pretty damn quickly.

what is the easiest way to level up smithing? it is so slow and boring i never want to do it. ive created a bunch of weapons/armor and refined them but still very few points.

Seems you get the same amount of xp or what ever regardless of what you make, so make what ever is cheapest/ most accessible and just keep at it.

I make all my gear :D Cept I've got a volken helm that looks epic so wearing that instead of the helm I made.

Pay for smithing training and pickpocket your money back, and train again, Up to 5 times.
Then go out and lvl up your character and do it again.
Thats what ive been doing lately.

depends on what you have. just keep cranking out daggers, leather bracers, and gold rings. they are the most efficient use of iron/steel, leather & gold, and can up your skill quick like. i wouldn't bother with upgrading them, just make them and sell them for more supplies. make the rounds between towns buying supplies and using smithies, and then sell the items back.

it'll still cost money but really not alot for all the skill you get, and you can always make more money easy enough at that rate. of course if you pickpocket the money back like 3dsage mentioned it's no biggie.

the only difference is that you can only train 5x per level. so both train and smith, and there you go.

So can I change my forum name to Wabbajack?

Yep playing straight Mage, not only straight caster, but wearing robes as well as I refuse to put any damn metal on me, Mages don't wear metal. And it will work great end game with Ebony Flesh + Dragon Hide, I will have 400+ Armor and 80% damage resistance while wearing robes. But right now, no Dragon Hide (so no 80% damage resistance) and I get a massive 60 Armor Stone Flesh, I fold faster than a lawn chair on a windy day. Those big Dwarven robots fold me in 1 hit, so I basically have the break the game and just run around a pillar from them, which ends up being no fun at all. One of them I ran down a hallway till the hallway was to small for him to get through, then I just nuked him, still took 5 min because mana regen is so slow. I'd rather not use crappy tactics like that, but I have to.

Like Digi said, leather bracers, leather helm, iron daggers, that kind of stuff is cheap to make.

Raid a dwarven mine, this will get you a couple of hundred dwarven ingots. Then buy up all the iron ores/ingots you're bothered to buy. Make as many dwarven bows as you can (1 iron + 2 dwarven ingots) then refine them.

i would, but i dont have the smithing level high enough to be able to make anything special :(

Does anyone have tips for making the game run smoother? I'm using 11.10 drivers and forcing the Oblivion Crossfire profile on RadeonPro with a heavily modded Skyrim and I need to break 60 FPS for my sanity

I just use a 4GB patcher exe for just about everything. Could also teak your ini file for this game too.
I've only used the first one and some random mods.

Edit: I only have 5 of whatever of the
Stone of Barenziah
. How many are there total?

Just keep making iron daggers and hide helmets til you do. Hunt some deer if you need to. Also:

A Smithing skill book is lying on Sky Forge in White Run as well
