As luck would have it I have in my possession a brand new HIS HD 6970 2GB. I already have in my system a XFX HD 6950 flashed to 6970. With the XFX I can run BF3 at 1920x1200 with auto settings mostly at High and texture quality at Ultra.

My question is, should I keep the 6970 for x-fire or sell it and save that money for the new 7000 series coming out? I don't play that much besides BF3 and MW3 and have not noticed any lag in the graphics card department. Thanks in advance for your comments and opinions!

I say keep it and run xfire. You will be set with your rig for a while and I don't think 7xxx will offer that much more benefit.

I'd probably sell it. You're not going to get that much better performance from two. And you could make a pretty penny off of it while it's still worth something.

I don't really overclock videocards anymore. I'm not sure how much I will gain anything from it. How long will x-fire last me? Until 8000 series? lol

I voted in the poll but I prefer a third option. Send 6970 to brooksyx for free because his 6870 sucks in eyefinity. :p

Sell it, you are running 1920x1200 and one 6970 is up to the task for that resolution.

Sell, you have lots of power in one 6970, there is no need for the second one.

Keep it, Crossifre them and once the HD 7900's are released, make a choice whether you want to keep the XFire or buy a new HD 7900. It all depends on the benchmarks IMO.

should have bought mine when i had it up in the FS section. - or wasnt £80 for a £120RRP less then a year old with 2years warranty left SSD not good enough for you?

On topic - Id say keep the 6970. It should hold off the upgrade bugs for a while. Hopefully until the PCI-E 3.0 cards start coming out.

the only reason i would change from 6970's are

#1 - extremely bad drivers (which is highly probable at this moment as it seems AMD hires monkeys to write its drivers)

#2 - you want something more electric bill friendly so you either stick with one 6970 or downgrade to a lesser card (GTX570's are awesome btw - they are definitely worth the 1:1 step down to them as they totally beast the 6970 in quite a few games without driver problems)

#3 - someone gives you a free GTX590 or 6990 (Never going to happen unless youre extremely lucky to win one from a competition - but then again you could crossfire that 6990 with the 6970 for some awesome juice guzzling utility bill cringing powwwaaaahhhh!!!!!)

so keep them.

the wail/drone of 2 6970s while gaming can be a little unbearable though.

If you crank both of the fans to 35% they can be very intrusive unless youre wearing head phones.

I would keep the 6970/6950 unlocked until the 8000 cards are released and skip the 7000 cards. That's what I'm doing with my 5870s, keeping them until the 7000 cards and skipping the 6000 cards.

I agree with this statement. I had xfire 4890s and skipped the 5 series. I would keep that 6970 mate and xfire it 4 sure. Theres not much xfire 6970s cant handle and i cant see dx12 coming out anytime soon. I also dont think too many 7 series cards will beat a 6970 xfire setup.

Sell it. I have two unlocked 6950's, and one barely gets used.

But, personally, I'd keep the 6970, and sell the unlocked 6950.

Keep for now, the 7k's seem to be just a bunch of re-branding from what I've seen.

If they do end up being killer... the sell the cards- you'll still get a decent amount for them.

Hmm, so far I'm leaning towards keeping it and skipping the 7000 series.
