The worst part is you can not install from disk with no internet I tried unplugging it so it wouldn't update. turns out the second you start installing it from disk with internet this comes up so now once it gets done you can not play the game until you resume pause because it knows there is a update!

you know you can set steam not to update games rite? I did this for dragon age i think it still works.

That seems broken for Skyrim, I set mine to that, it just toggled it back on when the update came out.

Fortunately, after the 0-day patch, I was able to find out how to play from the .exe directly, and never looked back. But yeah, Steam-ing-pile-of still manages to update despite telling it not to update Skyrim. Mainly, because people figured out how to play without it :rockout:

Man last night I just cruised around the woods southeast of Riften and marveled at the beauty of this world. I have an enhanced color mod that really makes a nice diff on the flora and such. Also Enhanced Distant Terrain makes a nice improvement too and not just with the terrrain itself but things like fog on the far mountains and mist off distant waterfalls. I also seem to see a lot more wildlife and such far off than I used to. And couple times a bear has suddenly ended up like 100 feet off the ground and he eventually falls and dies on impact.

Oh found a cool and funny thing too:

There's a solitary, random house at the base of a mountain and it's on fire. Go inside and there's a charred corpse holding a scroll of Summon Flame Atronach. And just outside is a fallen tree with a Destruction skill book hidden underneath. Smokey the Bear is not amused but I sure was.

Yep, someone just linked that, I been looking at it, I use the other landscape mod. I like different things about both of them I personally would mix and match them I think.

Thats the first mod I've seen that has me considering using it.

I want to play through the game once first before using mods but after looking at that one I might have to start using mods soon.

Another patch on the way this week I thought I read.

Ugh I want Skyrim to hurry and get fixed I'm waiting for them to do that so I can install texture mods, so far I'm just doing simple mods.

My game crashes all the time now that they tried to fix it. I never had one problem with the original build now I get all sorts of crashes messed up textures purple everything. I just figure the more I mod the more Skyrim will punish me.

All I read is how everyone has tons of problems with the game so part of me doesn't want to mess with anything. Up to this point I have not used mods (except LAA) and my game has always worked. Runs good works well. No issues to speak of.

I have this feeling that if I start modding I'll start having issues.

No real point in using LAA unless you have some texture packs. And no real point on waiting for 2nd play through for texture packs, since they don't change the game like other mods do. I haven't had any issues with texture packs, and if you are running LAA, you are set.

So being bored this morning, grabbed Skyrim to play through since I had played through Oblivion. But before doing that, I wanted to perform a little driver comparison on my AMD 6870 so I could see which of the many performance updates seemed to offer the best performance. Screenie of system spec, have the turbo multi on my 2500K up to 36 from the 34 stock it does, and the bclk should be 102. Game settings are on Ultra, did drivers 11.11, 11.11a, 11.11b, and 11.11c. FRAPS benchmark results (need Excel to view). Um...yea...that's all I can think of for now.

Regarding texture mods, what ones are compatible with each other?

For example can I use skyrim hd with serious textures?

I'm thinking probably works fine but what ever you put over last will over write any textures that have the same name?

So if I were to install skyrim hd I'd get the nice hd wood textures etc I want and then put serious over the top I'll have better floor textures?

You are the second person that has said that to me and you are completely wrong. The game uses (if allowed; over 3GB's of memory on my comp.) Without the LAA mod I crash (CTD) after playing for awhile. Using the skyrim4GB mod means the game never crashes.

So it's not a waste.

Anyone started getting this weird glow over nirnroots all of a sudden? Which remains there even if you pick the nirnroot?

Apparently it is a bug which appears after certain hours of gameplay.

My nirnroots were always 'normal', then all of a sudden they all started glowing insanely.

I had to use this mod to remove the muckup...

Very true. Without the LAA fix you crash if you play at a resolution higher than 1080p too. I used to crash to desktop a couple of minutes after starting playing, with the vanilla game at 2560x1440. If I set it at 1080p or lower I don't crash immediately.

As long as they dont place the same file. If they do, whichever one you placed last will over right the other. They will still work fine together.

So it's not a waste.

I could be completely wrong in your case, but I haven't heard of any other person out there playing at 1080p crashing on default settings, hell I was running 10k distances shadows with some 8192 res for them without LAA + some texture packs and I was completely fine, till I entered a city.

I've had the CTD issue since the game released. It doesn't happen often but it always happens after I play 2-3 hours. But once I started using the LAA and then later the skyrim4GB I have not had any issues. But yesterday I decided to play directly off the steam exe and sure enough after about 2 hours the game crashed. back to skyrim4GB and the game played fine till i shut it off that night, (4 hours or so later.)
