No, my look on how things have changed....

I have my best friend that brought me onto this site. I remember all the talks on what was going on before I even became a memeber.. There was less Mods and more problems to where it was bait and hook. There was teens (which isn't a bad thing to which what I am going to say) that really didn't care for tech but more of the "social" part of a forum.. To which more strick aspecs came to term. Which is a good thing because it made TPU what it is. A tech site to which ANYONE can come and learn or teach...

Now, yes, in the past few months a lot of "changes" has happened.. But, every year W1z does this.. He goes and trys something to make the place grow... I remember when I cam on it was Mal only... Bta was just starting out like myself.. Now look. we have people from all over the globe doing it.. From that, we have different styles... It's a NEWS system now... Not just a "bot" (mean know ill to Mal or Bta) in which the news is posted..

Like I say, this is my view on things..

No no I would never leave because of one guy. That would be retarded. I just hate what you bring: FUD, flames and shitstorms from myself and others. The problem is that it feels like it infects the rest of the forums. Maybe it's just me, but this place just doesn't seem as friendly as it once was.

After 6 years I
Agree it is unfriendly we have members constantly
Bashing other members in the comments and feedback section I already found the problem. I'm a bit more seasoned though so it was easy.

Yay qubit news.
Then go live in a cave and stop interacting with society. It's the only way to avoid it.

Qubit has gotten better, but I'm still not a fan. I just can't be bothered with saying anything (except the random snarky "yeah 'news' lol"). This go against my promise to him that I would tell him when the news are editorial and not news. I'm a turncoat. On myself. :(

Yes well it's qubit. Most of his "news" posts does that.

I assume qubit don't like it when products have abstract names. Megaman, how is he mega? Here's a company named Rentals Unlimited, you should write a letter to them. They're not unlimited. Simcity 3000 Unlimited is also stupid, I know as a facts that you cannot build unlimited cities. Autodesk is a sinner as well.
I don't understand how you can be hung up on that. They guy does throw around the term a bit too much but it sound like your avarage sales talk to me.

Waiting for qubit to make a "news" bit about it. :p

EDIT: But I think it makes kinda sense. If by mobile they mean the CPU+GPU stuff they have.

I'm actually kinda shocked this isn't a news post.

When a post/thread contains anything even remotely connected to Apple, people go all apeshit with an anti-Apple rage.

It is getting tiresome.

nag nag nag, hate hate hate, drama drama drama, pick pick pick. The worst part is im sure their is more. Sometimes I dont want to read his articles because the chance that you have posted in it is so high. I just get SOOOOO tired of reading about how much you hate qubit. You know though. Maybe he should do an article on it!

I enjoy quibit's posting, particularly the DRM related posts, as he and I generally adopt a similar stance in this regard, but in Frick's defence, assuming he needs one, I see no harm in cultivating a forum nemesis, providing all exchange remains civil.

I see nothing wrong with our forums, life is good, it is Saturday, time to go out for a few beers.

The end.

Thankyou. You're gonna just love my article on piracy that I'm about to publish, then ;) - just putting the finishing touches on it now. Yeah, Frick whinges about me a lot, but I still think he's a good guy nonetheless. :toast:

Oh and how dare you put Real Life and beers over TPU?! Take that! qubit attacks Mr McC Punch and Judy style.

FUD is subjective.

If people have a problem with FUD news posts then I suggest you don't read them. I know I don't. Anyway its not like ALL the news is FUD and the sad thing is FUD in moderation can bring more traffic. The key is MODERATION.........

See what I did there?

Anyway people report conflicting opinions way to much. A alot of people really need to toughen up or get out of dodge.

Easy! Rhino(no pun intended) Been here for a VERY long time(longer than most) and seen this place go up and down. Seen good changes and bad. My fair share of trolls and times where my feelings on this site where that I would never come back.

But then it goes back up again and hey I like qubit's fresh angle on news I don't get why he is taking so much flack over it(not saying you) He brings something different to the news here that I personally welcome.

He lays too much opinion and speculation into his posts. Most of them aren't news at all, but opinion pieces with a few facts thrown in sometimes. Sorry quibit, but that's how I feel about most of your news posts. I don't dislike you in any way, just really don't like most of your articles. Tone it down a bit on the conspiracy theories, post the facts, and let the readers come to their own conclusions.

I think we should have a news section and a separate editorial section. The badge doesn't cut it when you don't visit the front page.

Now there's constructive criticism! :rockout: and I respect your view. Unfortunately, it's not possible to please everyone and if I went Bland(tm) then others wouldn't be happy, let alone me. In truth, what you get with my articles are the full news story with hard-hitting analysis weaved into it, especially when I'm reporting on something controversial. If you like, I can send you my list of articles that I've published and you'll see what I mean. The ones that touch on uncontroversial subjects are written pretty much in the standard news style one sees everywhere.

Tell you what, if the next controversial subject I write about, I report the story in style Bland(tm) and then put all the analysis in at the end do you think you'd like that better? I could PM you to alert you to the story, if you like, too.

And waddya mean you don't like my tinfoil hat, huh? :wtf: It's a conspiracy I tell you. I think we should be told... lol

Oh and spel my name rong wun more time and I'm gonna hit ya punch and judy style! :toast:

Its not the actual news you report on thats controversial its the way you report it, its polarises opinion. I find it all detracts from the facts of the news. If your popular then keep doing whatever it is you do, ill just have to filter through the news when i read it but its not like ive seen massive popular opinion towards your writing style.

Yeah, it's a real Marmite effect here, lol. I do actually have quite a few fans and have made lots of friends since starting the news writing. What do you think of my suggestion I made to Wile E to add the analysis at the end? I could try it for an article or two and see how it goes.

Thanks for taking the critisism openly and well, qubit. Not many of us would put up with as much.:toast:

I prefer the suggestion Wile E put forward, that there is an editorial section separate from news. (i.e. not in the same post).

Ok, when you say a separate section, do you mean something separate that would appear on the front page, or just an editorial section in the forums?

The opinion in the news posts are really detracting- more often than not, I find myself skipping the news section all together.

I meant to have an editorial sub section in the news forum. One that preferably does not show up in the ticker at the top of the forums, but I'm game to hear other ideas.

And I actually think I would like the idea of posting the news and then your analysis at the end. That would make it so much easier to pick out the facts.

Absolutely. I would like it completely separate, not in the same post.

The opinion in the news posts are really detracting- more often than not, I find myself skipping the news section all together.

I am using your above quote as an example and not as a personal attack.

Since when have facts and spin been exclusive of each other in a news story???
Most news is "all the facts we want you to know".
Every news read has an opinion or bias/style built in to it; Example, Fox News vs. The New York Times.

If one can't discern between facts and spin then one has not read nearly enough. I don't recall seeing footnotes in the newspapers regarding factual content... Read your technical journals on your own time.

Not everyone is going to be pleased 100% of the time, 100% of the time.

This ongoing negativity about the news articles is tiresome.

I suggest that one reads what one likes, soley, so that one's personal happiness remains intact.

Some people just don't like a challenge or to be challenged. Basically, we each own our own issues. Projecting our own unhappiness is like a disease that infects others.

I like the news delivered in an entertaining fashion. I also like a pretty and buxom news woman delivering it but that's not practical all the time.

I like the news here and I have been reading the technology news on TPU long before I formally joined the site.

I would not change a thing.

A big thank you to qubit for having a thick skin and making the effort.:)

You have to understand the people who complain about Qubits news are all old timers. People who are used to TPU news being about the facts only and not sensationalism opinions with the facts sprinkled on as an after thought. Say what you will, good or bad. Qubits news is not the norm on TPU. It will take some adjusting to get used to I guess.

It's hadly that, man; it's a damned sight better than that. It's hard-hitting analysis on stories that require it (usually the controversial ones where some company is trying it on) and some people whinge about it incessantly. They should try shooting the company that's pulling this shit, not the messenger (me) that's just warned them about it! Also, you'll find that many news stories have a certain amount of commentary/analysis weaved into the story. The fact I word it more strongly seems to lift some people right out of their comfort zones.

I've already suggested to While E that I'll write a couple of standard stories, with the analysis all at the end to see how it goes. What do you think of that idea?

Look, your stories aren't all that conventional either and are infused with that typical mailman humour - and I think that's great and makes me laugh. Arrow to the knee - come on! The point is, our four different styles are an asset to TPU, not a liability and bring in more page views, which increases the amount of dosh that TPU makes, which is good for all of us.

And yeah, I bring a new and different angle - and proud of it. :rockout:

Speculation has driven every business since day1.

He lays too much opinion and speculation into his posts.

Being able to recognize trends is a powerful tool in of itself.
I would like to know where certain stocks will be 1,2,6,12 months from now.

Speculation on how other companies will react to another's changes is useful, as in the recent example of Western Digital's downgrade in warranty period followed by Seagate.

A myopic view of things is reckless by any business standard.

What would be the point of having any news at all???

I don't feel qubit has abused the news to lower it to the level of a personal blogspot as others are implicating.

I would really like news copy+paste to be in some Wizzard bbcode that looks a bit like a quote, perhaps a different font, and without a different background, with the link to the source.

Outside of the bbcode but within the same post, the anchorman can optionally add their live-and-direct comment and become a journalist.

It really isnt very hard!

Thanks qubit for adding some editorial to marketing PR.

Actually an editorial afterword would be nice, that way you can say your piece on the news rather than interject it.

But, isn't that what bta does in his news posts also? just hits it as a double post... Just like if they were going to "thank" someone..

Edit:

Some threads that bta has added "things to" due to it not being part of the news

Thread 1

Thread 2

:Now don't get me wrong. I do like Q's way of doing it, but there could be a different way to do it to which both parties win.. The editorial at the end is nice... Just gotta play with how to "show it" right. IMHO
