I don't care if HD 7970 is not a second coming of Jesus. All that matters to me is it's faster than GTX 580, and more energy-efficient than it, and its performance/$ equation compares nicely. People hardly care about things such as inter-generation improvements when they go to buy a graphics card. Market logic and consumerism takes over bullshit Brand A vs. Brand B competition comeback soap-opera.

Ok, maybe I'm spoiled by previous generations, but I definitely expect huge improvements from new generations. I expect new cards to come at the same price as previous cards did 1 year ago and I expect them to be much faster. At least fast enough and priced in a way that make previous cards fall in price. I don't expect a new gen to be just competitive in perf and price with the previous generation.

As for "kepler is around the corner, NV shal rool", please. Nobody cares about things that don't exist.

Well I do care.

I didn't say Kepler is around the corner. Being a few months late does not matter, if you are going to "rule" for the mayority of the next 2 years. Last time Nvidia was 6 months late and with an underperforming card, yet they recovered and for the next 18 months they completely owned the high-end/performance discrete card market again. And that meant very high prices in the last couple years. This time around it could be worse much worse.

OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD!

It's like AMD has turned you all into royal butt kissers!

HD 7970 is awesome?! 30% is awesome?!

If HD 4870 was 30% more powerful than HD 3870 would you consider it awesome too?!

PEOPLE!

We are the ones who are supposed to criticize. If it wasn't for us, the corporations would do whatever they want.

Don't just accept anything as awesome..

Do I have to? Oh well...

Case re-opened.

If you are actually caused mental duress by a graphics card being below your expectations, fair enough. That's just silly now, isn't it?
In your view people seeing this card as a good thing means these people are blinded? Not true. They simply do not have the same very high expecttaions that you have of this release.
You can post on these forums all day about what you expected but people have different expectations so please do not harass the good people on TPU for having more realistic expectations than you.
The 5 series cards were great from AMD. The 6 series were not such an improvement. I see this as a significant step up from the last series in terms of combined usage of gpu compute capability and gaming purposes.

Please don't have a go at people for being different to you. They accept it as good - you don't. You can post considered comments and you'll get civility back. But when you start jumping up and down like a little child, well, you look silly. No?

So, let's all be mature.

You think 7970 sucks Kepler balls. Fine. Others think it kicks Fermi balls. Fine too.

Oh, and this:

is in fact just that and both are horrific.

Move on.

Wow, you managed to fit all that smugness and narcissism into one post?

Guess I'll have to try and top it. Oh well..

Let me re-cap.

1.) You're saying that other people have lower expectations of me and that is the problem here.
2.) You're saying that rape and murder are meaningless.

Well, I can't answer the second one. TOS, you see.

But the problem here is..

High expectations are NECESSARY. But they also are inevitable.

If you got excited because HD 5870 was twice as powerful as HD 4870..

Then to be happy right now.. you'd have to LOWER your expectations.

First of all, I don't want to. Why should I?

Secondly, an entire market suffering from cognitive dissonance is VERY bad for the industry.

Either you understand or you don't. Either way, case closed in MY book.

What's to dislike about the 7970? Its officially the best single card on the planet. And I certainly dont get upset at hardware releases. I'd rather get upset at the girl who turned me down for a date last night ;D

Right now, the HD 7970 is the best card there is, for my money. It's the fastest single-GPU, it has exceptionally good power characteristics (which is a definite fruition of the new silicon fab process), there ends the story. There's nothing better than HD 7970 that I can buy with my $500-ish I set aside for a graphics card.

People are losing their minds. Why can't there ever be a civil discussion when AMD, Intel or Nvidia releases a new product?

Chill out, skip the card if you're concerned about performance. Voting with your wallet is the best way to let AMD, Intel or Nvidia know you're not happy. Trying to convince people that X product sucks, I'm waiting for X product to come out because it will be better is stupid.

That's the point man. You cannot vote with your wallet. Even if I don't buy a product the message won't get through if thousands of people buy it. It's happening everywhere. Games. People vote with their wallets, which means millions and millions of idiots buy rehashed COD crap. Which makes all of the industry make the same crap, that people buy again for full price. So you're telling me I have to just accept the same happening with GPUs? It may very well be the reality, but I will certainly fight it as much as I can.

You're playing Devil's Advocate so well, you should wear one of those barrister capes.

As a consumer, I am disappointed for not receiving something as great as I did the year before.

As a member of this community, as a critic of the industry, a necessary proponent of the marketplace, I am furious that we're getting low-balled by this failure.

I just don't have time for analogies to imaginary nothings.

They might be imaginary, but they're not nothings.

If you feel okay with it, then why don't you go off and buy the i7-2700k?

I think you see where I'm going.

Of course, I know what your answer will be.

What were you expecting?

THE SAME THING I GOT LAST YEAR.

F*cking morons.

But considering it was still on 40nm, I just say "meh."
