1GB or 2GB ATI GPU?

I was debatting on whether to get a 1gb or 2gb ATI GPU. Does it make a difference? I want to play most current games and future games. Will picking up a 2gb ATI GPU be smarter or should I just save the extra 30 or 40 dollars for the 1gb. I also want a super quiet card but also performs flawlessly. I have looked into the ATI 6950 GPUs but am debating on which ones to get.

Can anyone pass on some suggestions?

2gb for sure. You may not use all of it right now, but you don't know about the future. Also, it's really great to have the extra memory if you run really high resolutions like 2560x1600 or eyefinity and/or use high-res texture mods in games. Personally, I wish I had gotten a 2gb card when I bought my 560 Ti.

May I ask why you got the NVIDIA GPUs over the ATI GPUs

Honestly, it was mostly personal preference for the drivers because that's what I'm used to from most of my past cards. The 560 Ti and the 6950 are very close in performance, so either one is a good buy.

I've heard more about ATi in the news then nVidia. But I'm not going to feed fanboism.
2GB for future-proofing, although if you don't have a screen with 1920x1200 resolution (or higher) or play games with texture mods, you won't really need it.
