E2220 combatible with ddr3

I have a question about the Intel E2220 with ddr3, will it be combatible because I'm upgrading my mobo.

As long as both the cpu and memory go into the board, they will both work fine.

Try ASROCK as they always made unique hybrid mem boards.
Normal mass made boards with P35,P45 etc was DDR2 I believe.

E2220 is not really worth keeping if you upgrade.

Yea most were DDR2. There are a few LGA775 DDR3 boards other than Asrock, but not many lol
ASUS did a few - P5KC and P5K3 are two from the top of my head.
Google shopping results came up with a few too.

camoxiong - the answer is yes, your CPU is compatible with DDR3 but the motherboard you are buying will have to be compatible too.

LGA775 with DDR3 is essentially any X48 chipset board.

While there were tons of boards made for this, the technology wasn't really up to par to make good use of the DDR3 at that time. If you are going to DDR3 I would upgrade everything and take advantage of the money you are putting out.

If you are sticking with skt 775 for now, try and get some quad or another, a q6600 for example.

There's quite a few(newer ones might I add) G41 chipset boards made that provide ddr3 1600 support.

EDIT:

But pretty sure with that low of a PSB strap with the chip being a 200fsb(800 bus) it may not support that speed dram and would have to essentially overclock the cpu to say maybe a 1066 or 1333 PSB.

Newegg has not backed off the price on the E8400 since I bought mine 3 years go(prob still $179.00?). I would go for a 45nm E5xxx or E6xxx series for best bang for the buck.

are you not purchasing a new motherboard anyways? you could get one that supports quad cores (which most newer 775 will) and then upgrade to one in the future if you wish to stick with the 775 socket

with that budget, you COULD get a decent APU quad like below granted I went over by 16$ but still if newegg had the cheaper quad core APU's in stock it would be 10$ off. Also the CPU has built in HD6530 video that you could use until you can get a better GPU.

pretty much all the 775 boards i've been seeing lately have been ddr3. altho they are fairly low end, no company that i know of is producing high end 775 boards. you can still find old stock, new in the box, but at a premium price. your only choice may be used.

i do recommend trying to stretch the budget and go AMD apu, the built in video card will work until you can get a decent GPU.

keep an eye on the for sale section here, i will be posting a very nice gigabyte p45 ddr2 board in the next few days.
