Help Me With Upgrades?

I'm looking for some helpful ideas and opinions on how I can further upgrade and increase the overall performance of my Gaming PC.

Better VGAs, and up your overclock to 4.5 GHz(with better cooling, if needed).


That is all. You got the ram side of things covered, and SSD too. Daily tasks won't improve much, except with the CPU voerclock, and even then, not by much. Games, on the other hand, will see some improvement with both the higher CPU overclock, and better VGAs.

I've noticed quite a few users offlaoding 6950 2GB cards with waterblocks lately, for compelling prices...something to consider if you don't mind used parts.

I haven't overclocked my CPU yet. I've only been using Turbo Boost.

Are there any guides to OC'ing with the Maximus IV?

I'd love to get that started next week!

Since I have the Corsair H80, I'm thinking I can get pretty high.

Yeah I just sold my 6950's and blocks (they were great but feel the need for a different path) to go the way of the 7970, and then add another later. I've noticed quite a few here for sale too,and I've had good experiences with used hardware especially from people from this forum!

Well, looks like, for the moment, that OC'ing my CPU (which is what it was made for) is the primary focus for now.

Gotta put my Corsair H80 to work and use it for what it was intended.

The 7970, to be seriously honest, has not impressed me (considering 2x6870 vs 1x7970), just doesn't justify the $650.

I think 7990 is my best bet for the PERFECT AND ULIMATE upgrade, and if I can wait a bit longer, a 8970 (or 8990) when those come out in 2013.

yer im going to be sticking with my 6950 mod until the 8000 series because it can play most games on reasonable setting and get me 120fps for the 120hz monitor. im not sure how much better 2 6870s are but im sure its enough. but then again you have alot of top of the line stuff.

on a side note. maybe another ssd in raid 0 would be good. i always find myself running out of space with my 120gig

Also note though that its usually better to get 1 single fast ssd, instead of a raid 0. You dont have the potential hassles that can come with raid, and your boot time is actually better with 1 single fast ssd.

Though a raid 0 may be a good option if it fits your needs, depends what you prefer.

Look beyond the tower people. How about a bigger monitor. I just got my current 30" and I'm loving it. I was using a 1920*1200 24" before.
