I just (30 seconds ago) ordered an H60, and was wondering what the best single fan for the job would be. I'm sure the stock fan is more than adequate but there has to be a decently priced fan that would do a much better job.

I would say the Noctua 120mm, and maybe consider going double?

Since the H60 uses a radiator design, you can use the formula (q)(a)(Vm)^.73 for the affect of air speed on heat transfer. Basically heat transfer is proportional to air velocity to the power of .73 and when graphed comes out as a vertical line decaying to the left as it increases. So the more CFM the better, to an extent... FrozenCPU has a 172x150mm fan that's 265 CFM.

nah.. something with high static pressure is best for rads of any density.

38mm thick fans tend to have the highest static pressure but some newer 25mm thick fans come close.

deltas are great... and IMHO the best, but they do get loud.

good thing about deltas is they respond REALLY well to undervolting unlike most fans out there.

most fans when undervolted to 7v drop to less than half the 12v speed.

deltas scale normally though. 30% drop in voltage = ~30% drop in rpm but still retain a good static pressure

Oh yes I am very interested but I have to get my wife to agree to buying them. She hates it when I have to buy things for my computer, I mean REALLY HATES IT! Since I have been out of work for the last 4 years now ( Just odd jobs ) I have little to no money at all to work with.

HOLY CRAP!!! I never knew about these! 151.85 CFM!!! OMG!!! I so need to get some of these!

And those are just the PWM ones that I suggest to people because they are easier to control so they aren't so loud your ears start to bleed.

I've got one of these in a server: 1ST PC CORP. PFB1212UHE-F00 120mm Case Fan

If you want to hear what it sounds like go here:

Be sure to watch in HD to get the better sound quality.;)

Yeah, I actually just love playing the videos and the sound of the fan spinning up and the fact that it takes so long to get to full speed. The sound is just mesmerizing.

P.S. Don't accidentally stick your finger in the the fan, it will crack your nail and slice off a chunk of flesh...:ohwell:......

LOL. I would have to put some shrouds on them as it is my cat seems to think the fans on the back of the computer are fun to play with. Yes she has pawed them many times and gets all pissed off at them because they seem to fight back! So what does Miss Kitty do? She attacks them! Man I have had to replace 2 fans so far because of my evil cat!

heres 10 of my 140mm x 50mm deltas, 376cfm each, in megarig...

keep in mind, this is at only 12v with pwm control... these are 24v fans

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilKkP3Q1LNo&list=UUDpg_1zJIx9ALUn-FnnpdQw&index=2&feature=plcp

and a single fan out of the case from 7v to 31v

7-15v
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUfCgURTvmk&list=UUDpg_1zJIx9ALUn-FnnpdQw&index=16&feature=plcp

19-31v
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVHPd35aNco&list=UUDpg_1zJIx9ALUn-FnnpdQw&index=15&feature=plcp

Those things are just insane!:D

Oh and I saw that ninja edit:

When I have the front bezel off my case to clean the fan filters I have to watch my dogs, I've got 4, and they all like to stick their noses in spinning fans...

Nothing like hearing "YELP!" from the dog, then "thump thump thump thump thump..." from the unbalanced fan that lost a blade... Only had to happen once for me to take precautions afterwards.

Anyway, I think we've derailed this thread far enough with our fan fetish. Sorry OP.
