Hello ,

Guys i need some advice from you what to do next.
I have FX-4100 (OC,d @ 4.2Ghz) CPU and CF HD-6870 Toxic from Sapphire , yup i did find out hard way my CPU its a "bottleneck" special in games like BF3 , when i do monitor CPU and GFX usage i can see CPU usage at 80-95% (All 4 Cores) and GFX cards usage no more then 60%(no V-sync) .
So yes for sure its a CPU problem,When i run single card config isin't that bad but with CF damm thats a bad idea. So my question is what CPU i need to buy? Thinking of :

1.AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
2.AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition
3.AMD FX-8150

If any one of you use one of thes CPU,s please let me knew whats yours performance in BF3 or with CF cards (pref. 6870,s ) that will help me make my mind what CPU buy next.
After all i have read lots of post on forums and i did see many benchmarks but none of them was made with CF config special with 6870,s , Sure some of you will say the 6870 are not for BF3 but come on in CF config they will do the job , not saying i like to play BF3 on ultra settings , nah im happy with max and no AA or at last 2xAA , Thank you , Mark

Benchmark Scores It can run Crysis (Original), Doom 2016, and Halo MCC. SD LE 45fps
all three seem pretty close performance wise, i'd get whats more affordable, and overclock. The 1100T seems to beat the FX in a few benchmarks i've seen, but the FX uses less power. In the end all are pretty close though, except for maybe power consumption.

I used to have that problem with the and is why I went to Intel's side and never looked back.
But The 1090T is a great cpu but but if ya have a few more dollars grab the 1100T and clock it to 4.+GHz and up the mem NB to 2800-3000MHz and your laughing

Thanks for quick replay , about power i think i don't need to worry much my PSU is:

Corsair TX750 V2 — 80 PLUS ( 750W) so i think can run a CF cards and some 145W CPU .
Are the Phenom II X6 ar 125W or 145W CPU,s can't remember ?

Don't waste the money on an FX-8150, save some cash and get an FX-8120 and just overclock it. It's a much better deal. That being said, the Thuban CPU's are probably superior.

All those CPUs have roughly the same performance, so you'd be wasting your time buying any of those. In particular, the FX-8120/8150 will give you a zero performance increase and quite possibly a decrease if you can't overclock them as far.

I recommend that you wait for Intel's Ivy Bridge, which is about to be released on the 23rd. Even the cheapest version of that CPU is likely to blow away AMD's best. Yeah, it's worth the investing in a new mobo to run IB, the performance improvement will be that great.

I think he was asking about AMD and not getting an Intel but I couldnt agree with you more.

And Not to start any war by saying this, but IMO don't waste your money at all on a FX of any breed YET and go for a Thuban cpu.

Umm... well considering the i3 and Pentium chips won't be released until Q3/Q4, yeah the lowest end chips of the IB lineup at launch (the i5s) are going to do better than AMD's current offerings as the current high end FX series competes with the i5s.
That said, he already has an AM3+ motherboard, and it is highly doubtful he will truly see much of a difference.
That said, I recommend a Thubian or wait a few months for Piledriver, if the Trinity leaks are true so far, it may be as fast or faster per core than Sandy Bridige while being more energy efficient, and of course giving you a couple extra cores for multitasking and threadhappy environments.

Once again, I have to disagree to a point, AM3+ may have a decent lifespan to it, and he may be able to get an AM3/+ socket chip for up to $100 less than an Intel IB processor, plus the cost of a motherboard, he would be looking at $200-300 for an increase of at most 30% CPU performance in single thread vs BD, though Thubian will fare better and he would only see a 20% difference at most, yet he would have a couple extra threads for multitasking, even if they won't be used much by games. Once again, PD is coming out this year too, and the AM3+ socket may have a longer lifetime and see SR on it.

Plus, he may prefer AMD.

Bahh I never said for him to go IB did I? Anyways BD was a waste of my cash. Trust me I was a hard core AMD fan for some time and It wasn't till I got the 8150 BD cpu that disgusted me and swayed me to the Dark side.
I recommend any day a 1090T or 1100T just for the fact clock for clock the Thurbian is a way faster cpu then the FX!
6core 1090T is still faster then a 8core FX

i duno what the problem is i play bf3 on high settings with no AA with out a hitch on a single 6870 and an fx4100@ 4.2, you definitely need more ram to run bf3 better 4gb is about the minimum the game uses on my rig.

I would get a FX-8120, they can be had for quite cheap, and they're not nearly as bad a everyone using big words would like you to believe. At 4GHz+ you wont run into a CPU bottleneck with one. Though i guess if you can get a Thuban for less than the 8120 you could also go for that.

Yeah they are bad, the only ppl that say they ARE NOT BAD are the ones that are stuck with them! Do ppl not read posts? I owned both cpu's.... the 1090T was far better then the 8150 was! Gee ppl :slap:

Hi , Yes i have no problems with BF3 when i use only one video card , same as you i got all set to max and it runs fine (avr. 60-80 FPS) no AA , about ram i dont see problem bcos i have 8GB of it from patriot cant remeber what speed but no less then 1866Mhz.

I'm not stuck with it, I choose it over the 2500K because it was the more cheaper and attractive option for me. Plus, whether you want to believe it or not, they do have their strong points. Anyway, this is getting into a matter of opinion because neither of us is providing any evidence to back things up, and thus, off topic.

Edit: and yes, I'm still content with this purchase.

Well, to be fair, if he got it on sale for $50 or so it wouldn't be so bad...
Nah, but seriously I have a 960t coming in the mail, am going AM3+, and hoping that the leaks for trinity hint to the performance of Piledriver, and if so perhaps AMD will be able to compete with IB i5s, and if they somehow outperform them the AMD camp won't get trolled quite so much... I would hope at least. :toast:

It doesn't really matter when different levels of IB are released. Spending on any AMD CPU now is a waste of money, since our OP is looking for better performance. Also, I don't understand why you're comparing with SB performance, as that is on its way out and therefore no longer relevant? I'd recommend the i7-3770K CPU when that's released in a few days, as it will have a huge amount of processing power, but a reasonable price.

+1 for a solid TPU member! :toast: If you don't want to spend top dollar on the latest hardware, LifeOnMars's bundle will see you right.

I'm comparing to SB because I'm trying to be reasonable. As far as it goes, price / performance wise the thubian is probably his best option right now. Depending on the price of mobo/cpu with that i5, especially if that bundle is tradable, might be a reasonable option if the price on top of his current motherboard is less than $100.
Then too, there is that the AM3+ socket will last longer than LGA 1155. After IB it's over. 22nm steamroller may still be on AM3+.
Oh, and once again, the OP may still just prefer AMD, in which case there is nothing truly wrong with going AMD, as the performance won't be that much higher. Per clock, SB is only 20% faster than a Thubian. It's not that huge of a performance difference, especially if he OC's. IB is a power saver, and implements a new GPU. I'm not certain IPC is that much higher if at all over SB, correct me if I'm wrong.
