What's your point? Any particular game?

I have the Lenovo N500, some cpu, same gpu, same IBM keyboard, and I still love it totally! It played the games of the time I bought it. But it is a business laptop. Never tried Crysis2 of course, lol.

Support:
IBM/Lenovo: should give support after guarantee expired. Use included Dr.PC (sp?) maintenance program or write/twit/call them
nVidia: 9 series is still supported in newer drivers.

You are showing a screenshot of Ubuntu 12, which should work well with that card. The Linux games available are not that demanding generally, and the desktop effects are being handled well. If necessary, you can disable some of the desktop effects even though I don't know whether the necesary tool is pre-installed in Ubuntu, currently (so you might need to search in Synaptic).

BTW, if you want help with your issue you should describe your problem.

9300 is a low end Model GPU for GF9 series which is already 6 Generations behind as the 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600. Also a emulation such as Wine isnt fully supported and not fully tested even by the creators of Unix/Linux. You will want to run that game at Minimum settings in resolution and detail level.

That's the problem, you're trying to emulate an intensive Windows game in Linux on an older laptop with low end hardware. What were you expecting?

Installing Windows would be your best bet for playing PC games. Hell, I wouldn't even use Wine and Linux to emulate PC games on my desktop. Emulating anything means using tons more resources than running it natively.

Ok I will and soon. I've got Windows 8 installed now so I might be able to play games pretty soon. Same specs just different operating system. Screenshot:

specs of the 9300m GS. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9300M-GS.9452.0.html

you can see how it performs in a variety of games, note that performance in/through WINE could be even less.

you may want to lower AA or AF settings and tone down shader intensive stuff like soft shadows, motion blur, etc. also, if your model is the GDDR2 version then its performance will be a bit slower. also your gpu only has 8 cores and 4rops. not a whole lot of gpu power, but it is capable of some gaming. you'll have to fine tune your settings. that 100mhz overclock probably helped a little, but it can only do so much. your best bet for gaming would be to dual boot with windows. I'm sure running WINE through linux taxes the cpu a bit.

edit: i see the driver properties lists it as having 256MB GDDR3, well that's one plus for ya.

edit 2: try downloading version 6.08 nVidia System Tools... It'll add the following screens to your driver control panel, or at least the ones pertaining to supported hardware (at the very least your gpu) MANUAL

Most likely, MW 2 and 3 are not going to run on that laptop, not even when installed natively in Windows. Therefore I think it is not worth it to buy Windows 7 just to play those games.

he might be able to at least run MW2, his 9300 is close to the performance level (a little better i think) than the 6600GT listed as the min. requirement. MW3 however requires at least an 8600GT, which has 32 shader cores rather than only 8. most everything would have to be on lowest settings though for MW2

easier said than done, youd be waiting around for sometime as that laptop gets older and older

Yes it will as its already 5 years old since I bought it, it went out of warranty about 4 months ago but it still works like original. Also I am a C++ dev so I am able to add additions to the software, if you go to: http://www.winehq.org/status/wine you'll find VxDs I am currently working on it please consider becoming a dev so it gets done quicker I am the only person doing this section of wine - core

honestly i think we are closer to getting developers to release big titles on Linux than developing gpu acceleration in Wine.

Improved alot with MW2 I can run it with 30 fps on the highest setting. :) MW3 however not so nice to run in Win8 unfortunately it could only run at 30fps on low settings and shuttered if I got it above that
