having a gen3 motherboard and ivy bridge cpu? should I sell my motherboard and CPU and get a z77 and an Ivy Bridge CPU? I don't plan to crossfire in the future, but am I missing out on any performance gains?

WTF Is this QUestion? Dude are you happy with the board or not?

Also Crossfire is mainly for future upgrades. In all Honesty You dont need it.

Btw Your Motherboard vs Z77 there is no major difference except in z77 you lose a feature that z68 has.

Z77 is the succesor to Z68 but adds native usb 3.0 along with Pcie 3.0 if you have an ivy bridge cpu

I'd say look for the reviews with Gen3 motherboards and Ivy Bridge CPUs, there should be something out comparing Gen3 to Gen2.

well with my 1150/1650 OC I am getting 312.0 gb/s bandwidth according to GPU-z, and I just am curious if my 2.0 PCI Express slot has a max gb/s and if I reached that max with my OC.

does that question make better sense?

There are some reviews out there using lga2011 that use PCI-E 3.0 already. There isn't much of a difference but there is some. It's most likely not worth it to upgrade but that's subjective I suppose.

It's not going to affect OC of the GPU.

However, PCIE 3.0 uses a different encoding method, so even the same data, sent over PCIe 3.0 vs PCIe 2.0, is going to get there faster. I think that for apps that are highly-sensitive to that latency in PCIe, will benefit, but the question remains as to how large that benefit is, or what those apps are. The more transactions over the PCIe bus there are, the larger the benefit, you would think...

PCIe 3.0 is touted to have double the bandwidth of PCIe 2.0, but only increases the link speed from 5.0 Gbps to 8.0 Gbps. That is 40% shy of a 200% increase(or 20%, depending on hwo you want look at it), so clearly there has to be SOME difference, even if the bus isn't fully saturated with data.

i'm working on an article comparing pcie performance of 7970 and gtx 680 at various pcie settings on ivy bridge

differences between 2.0 x16 and 3.0 x16 are around 1% so far, so not worth it changing anything in your setup

Your current setup is perfectly fine IMO. No need to fret over Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge is just fine.
