[WTB] Buyer Dell C521 PSU

Before I do a search, I thought I'd post this here.

My buddy gave me a Dell Dimension C521, with a funky skinny case and a funky PSU, not working, missing half it's case and the transformer hanging by it's wires.

So, I need a funky PSU, working and with a case. If anybody has one, or knows somebody with one, I'll by it if the price is right ( I don't know what my buddy is willing to pay).

Let me know if you need a picture, I can snap one of it, if necessary.

BTH, why not take it out of the case its in and install in a regular mATX/ATX case so a full size PSU will fit.

Check front panel connections on the board. I would pull the board and test with a power supply outside of the case and see if you get it running off a regular atx standard supply. If that's a go then pull the whole machine and ditch case and supply, replacing those as a bundle. Might better off.l doing the because then if your friend wants he can then replace the mobo, allowing him to upgrade CPU at a later time as well.

If it were mine, probably. Since it's not, and the guy is being a cheapskate, no. If I weren't already claiming one of his cases, maybe. Since I need it for my eventual AMD Socket A XP3200+ crunching build, no.

Which brings us back to..."Anybody got one?" Cheaper than $24.95 w/ free ship? Cause methinks, he won't pay. Which might lead to a FS thread for a C-521 with a dead PSU!

Sata Drive...single core AMD64...might go? :confused:

I've had this and similar conversations with him. Essentially, he just wants one of the four he collected, to work. Since the best of them, an Emachine in a mid sized case with a Celeron D @ 2.93 GHz, blah, blah, has a dead PSU, ATX-ish size, we are gonna go to the Box Shop and get one for $10. The only working one I scraped together, the P4, with a HDD from a buddy and some DIMM's from Mad Shot and a USB WiFi from Norton. Now, if I can just get Linux Mint to work for me...another story.

I might get one, too, and Frankenstein it to this Dell and make it a cruncher! That is, if my roomy don't mind me having a fourth box plugged in. He probably won't notice the boxes but, the bill might jump about $20 a box, or so.

BTW, it was running right up until it was donated to him. No popped caps, or such sort, but then some hack friend went at the PSU, and left it in it's current state.

Could even go one further when he is ready for an upgrade you can reuse the case and MAYBE the power supply.

It would be worth it imo. I mean the case is just great, and you can pop a dual core, 4GB RAM and a low profile HD 5450 or somethin there and you have a great HTPC (unless it gets to loud with a more powerful CPU), or you pop low power parts in it and use it as a server of some sorts. Or you sell it as an entry level desktop which still has reasonable power for the avarage joe.

I REALLY like the case is what I'm saying.

Its a single core? I am guessing socket 754 then no dual core but 939 I would say maybe. Its not worth the time unless you just buy a cheap case/psu combo from newegg like a xion or diablotek

It's AM2. 6150LE chipset. Low end dual cores isn't that expensive and 1GB DDR2-sticks are pretty cheap as well.

I REALLY like the case is what I'm saying.

Like I said earlier, if we can't find one cheap, like 10 bucks cheap, I'll probably rig it up as a cruncher. I would eventually throw some x2 core in it. Or, if I get strapped for cash...
