This will be the rig using the video card. It will be used for Diablo 3 on the highest settings and other games like SC2, Civ5, etc.

Well I mean of course if you have a 7970 in the list I will say go!(tho I would looks to Sapphire the cooler is much better be it the OC version or not)
If I flip the coin and go Nvidia the GTX 670 is the better buy. Reaches very close to the 680's performance on the cheap.

Edit: considering your monitor choice the 590 should not even be a consideration ;)

Forget the 590, the 680 consumes alot less power and has a better overall score than the 590 and is cheaper ( if new), as INSTG8R said you can also consider a 670

Take the GTX 590 out of the poll and replace it with the GTX670 :toast:

If money isn't a concern then go for the GTX680 but if you wanna save a bit, I would go for the GTX 670, overclocks well and can catch up to a stock GTX 680 or higher maybe:toast:

As for the HD7970, I would of recommended that but it seems to be around the same price as the GTX 680 in other countries (Mainly USA me thinks), In Australia its nearly as cheap as the GTX 670;)

With the new prices 7970's are very interesting, yesterday i saw one for $369 on tigerdirect with 6 games.
If that doesn't interest you you may go for a non ref 670 or even 7950.

does this thread mean u have changed ur mind over the gpu?
anyways, i dont think 590 should be in the poll? its not worth it..

i would say 670 is better value than 680 and should be comfortably enough for 1080p resolution that u have.. could go with 7970 if u get a deal for not more than 400$

Gtx670 can run most games you mentioned at max setting.
If that's not enough you can add another 670 in SLI with no problems with existing mobo or PSU.

Thanks for all the answers guys. As to the 670 and 680 debate, I don't mind spending a bit more for the 680 as long as the performance is better than the 670. I've never used an Nvidia card. I've always been an ATi fan.

I didn't change my mind. I'm currently working on 2 computers. The budget gamer is for the wife. She needs a computer and I want it to be capable of light gaming as a backup. This card is for my build. I'll be ordering the parts for it over the next few days.

Based on that review...I bought 2 of them (670's)

I personally don't believe you'll see very much difference, if any, in the games 670 vs. 680 as far as performance goes.
IMHO it's a waste of money. There are tons of reviews between the cards out there, and some good ones here.

The moderator of TPU (Wizzard) wrote a fantastic review on the 670 a little while back, you should take a look.
Based on that review...I bought 2 of them (670's) and I am extremely happy with them.

Going over 1920x1080 I say get the 680, going under, get the 670.
You plan to multi monitor or anything, get the 680.

Many 23, 24, and 27-inch (690 mm) widescreen LCD monitors use 1920×1200 as their native resolution and with the 23 and 24-inch I would still pick the 670; 30 inch displays can display beyond 1080p at up to 2560×1600 (1600p). Many 27" monitors have native resolutions of 2560×1440 and hence operate at 1440p. On these (the 27s and 30s) I would go to the ATI 7970 card or 680 Nvidia, based on the games I played.

Not saying I'm totally right or correct here, just my choices from what I have understood from lots of reviews...

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

uhhh no, the 670 does perfectly fine at 1920 x 1080. Its actually the better card for the money at that resolution. 680 yeah if your going over 1920 x 1080.

I run a stock GTX 670 at 1920x1080 @ 120hz and it eats everything I throw at it. I haven't even overclocked it.
