Gaming Laptop On a Budget

I'm looking to add another laptop to my arsenal. I need a gaming laptop while staying within a budget.

Budget-$900-1000

Needs:
1080p
Backlit keyboard
15.5" or bigger
Bluetooth (could do without it)

Anybody have any suggestions for what I'm looking for in my budget?

not back lit but a very good laptop. also they have a lot of other laptops.

i have one of the p150em laptop. they are closer to 1300 but come with the multi coloured backlit keyboard and are very good all round. just depends if you can spend the extra money

I really like the $1050 one has SSD, but if you need the 1080p then the little bit more expensive one will do.

that said if you are planing on playing diablo III or Wow or some other mmo there are plenty of laptop's that will do the job

if you are gaming, actually the lower rez laptops will be better because the videocard is so slow. I would not go with a 1080P model, or you will have to run everything at non-native.

laptop gpu's are slow no matter what you do and boi o boi do they get hot

Hardly with the 600 and 7000 series being out that is not even close to being the case, my gaming laptop can run BF3 at 1080p at 60 fps and thats on medium. Saying you will have to run everything non-native when it is just outright false is in no way contributing to the purposes of this thread.

That certainly seems like a fair amount of customization which could ensure it stays in your price range and as for the 660m it is a very capable laptop gpu and while I am not sure how hot it runs BF3 for an hour did not produce any noticeable heat.

its not gonna game for shit OR its gonna be so fking hot/power hungry that its gonna spend most of its existence on a desk sorry to rain on the parade here but they just don't make gaming laptops .... not at your budget

Try reading my system specs before posting I have a laptop with a 660m and it is capable of running BF3 at 60 fps granted it in no way can come close to managing that on a 48-64 man server but it is indeed doable do your best not to talk about a gpu as specifically as you are without first hand experience with it.

This in a nutshell is what you will have to come to terms with for a gaming laptop if it CAN game well then expect a maximum of 2-2.5 hours of battery life from it while not gaming.

Also i do agree I wouldn't get 1080p, but the laptop that i linked for $1,050(SSD) will do just fine, you won't be at max quality, but it will work.

Sigh what is with you people and discounting something based purely on your own inaccurate speculation as I have already stated I own a gaming laptop equipped with a 660m and it DOES play BF3 on medium at 60 fps. Is it going to be 60 fps 100% of the time of course not thats simply the nature of the beast but more often than not you will be able to get ~60 fps out of BF3 on medium at 1080p using non native res defeats the purpose of getting a gaming laptop in the first place if he is concerned about all of the eyecandy then this is not the price range for him to be in.

Edit: High/Ultra is not even close to doable squeezing playable framerates out of that on a 660m WOULD be a miracle indeed.

This is the way I see it - I have a gtx 570 on an OC'ed quad, I run BF3 at 1080P and I know how it performs at medium, high and ultra, your 660M is basically a 550TI, so if I get drops in the game (and I do) I know there is NO WAY your 660M is pulling 60.

Here is some proof - look at the 550ti @ medium. 41FPS avg and 33 min.

Try checking out any actual reviews of a 550TI (for arguments sake use TPU's Direct CU) and then comparing them to the 660m you will find quite a difference in some games greatly exceeding that 1% you are harping on about. And no being at 60 FPS for 3 seconds and dropping back down to 44 is not 60 FPS. Glad you understand that as well good thing that is not the case with 660m so no worries there .

You could go with even the default configuration and be set for Diablo and WoW. Its in your price range, and it will easily play Diablo 3 and WoW.

If you have a CompUSA or a Best Buy around, It wouldn't hurt to go see them and play with the ones they have. At least the ones here in Miami have both the MSI and the ASUS ROG laptops in stock and you can get a good feel for them. They even usually have a few games up on them so you can play a bit to see how they run.

You will also be able to see the differences between the 1080P and the 720P screen, and see things that are not evident on the on-line reviews, like how hot/loud it gets during gaming etc.

Just look for something with an i7, Nvidia 660m and min. 4GB ram and you will be fine. Personally i'm not a fan of 1080p on a laptop screen, but its all user preference.

And this is the one I really like it has a good i7, 660m, 8GB ram, 750GB and a 64GB SSD.
