I just downloaded an updated W7 Home Premium x64 SP1 ISO, and I was copying those files over to my W7 installation thumb drive. It seems to fail every time I copy the files over. The drive just disappears, no longer listed in My Computer. I also hear the device disconnected sound. I tried moving it from my front panel USB ports to one of the ports in the back and the same thing happened. I believe this is grounds to call it a dead drive...?

Hm, I ran the extended test in the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tools and it passed. Strange...

thumb drives are cheap. Go get another and try to move the files over again. If it works, reinsert the "dead" drive and try to move the file. If it fails..

.....snatch that POS out of the USB port and throw it aginst the wall and then jump up and down on it until you feel better then throw it away.

Hm yes, even an 8GB is under $10 now. Smashing time, it just may be... gonna be stuck burning a dvd to get this new iso stored somewhere though.

8Gb thumb drive = $10*
Blank DVD-R = $0.25*

Total = $10.25

$10.25 is worth the fun your going to have beating the Hell out of the dead drive.
