Hey guys.

I'm now at the end, my WD Black 1Tb are at 100gb free space, I need to replace with bigger.

I found some Hitachi 7200rpm 64mb SATA3 2TB for 109$ (can get them price beat for 89$).

3year warranty, I prefer this to those seagate with 1y.

any feedback on these drive? How'S hitachi service in case of fail drive?

Thanks :D

Might as well buy a WD, since they own Hitachi now.

I've had good luck with both. Not so much with Seagate lately.

They are all pretty much the same when used for storage.
Balance price and warranty; however, I would lean more towards warranty.

I am too, but the 2Tb doens't match the same performance, and the price is quite higher :/

Seagate, Warranty 1 y, until they all sell and get those wit h2y warranty.

So I thought maybe Hitachi could be the one for my computer ;)

I'm looking at egg and they have in the last 6 months a couple of DOA, so I was like Shit, but I've seen alot of seagate 1/2TB, the new one with a couple of problem.

I also thought maybe gettign another black for raid 5, but TLER is something I worry about :S

I have two 80g Hitachi sata 1's from 2004 that have been heavily used that are still going strong and check out error free in HDD Tune and WD tools. They are kept around now for my ext. hdd data. Also have a 160g Hitachi sata 2 from 2007 in my 2nd rig. Same as the 80's, error free in HDD Tune amd WD tools. All three Deskstars.

Hitachi is all I would buy in that era. I would not hesitate to put $ down on a Hitachi drive.

Hitachi's deathstar incident was long ago and nothing to hold against what they offer now even though it has scarred their reputation.

it wasnt Hitachi actually it was IBM Deathstar. Hitachi bought the HDD corp from them and did a complete 180, any IBM drives with a warranty were replaced by Hitachi with Hitachi Drives.

Ive used both Hitachi and Seagate and have had the least of problems with them. The ones ive had troubles with were maxtor and WD

Hitachi also makes 4 TB drives, which are the largest capacity drives available at the moment.

Just remember with Any Storage Device, Back Up Back Up Back up to a drive or disks or thumb drives that can be put away for archiving.

The Bigger the drive the more there is to lose

Actually, I have an eSATA external 1TB green, 2 sync every week, I should be okay :D, but that green I will keep it to bring some important data oustide, maybe every 2 to 6 months.

so I might grab a 2TB the cheapest I can get, so it will be used as an eSATA, or in USB3 in a new case ;)

I have 2 of these: Hitachi GST Deskstar 7K1000.C 0F10383 1TB 7200 RPM...

They run great but are more noisy than the WD or Samsung.

Taking note of this, thanks :)

More noisy than WD Black? xD

if warranty is the only important factor, get the one with the best. simple.

honestly though if any data is that important to you, it should be on multiple hard drives and in the cloud. all this fuss over
which drive is crazy. buy the cheapest, biggest, fastest drive you can find. or the best warranty, whatever floats your boat.

the point is that drive failure and data loss can happen to anyone, with any drive. no matter how reliable the series you may
just get a defect. the only thing you can really do is make sure important stuff isn't only on that one drive.

anyway, there's my piece. i have no opinion on manufacturers - I have used hitachi and currently have multiple seagates and
wds in my machines. a samsung or two, and two intel ssds. it's quantity that counts in the storage world imo.
