Ghz Edition is a joke, many people running 300mhz faster than that on the core of reference air cooled cards. Not worth the money for a 75mhz factory OC.

It's faster than the GTX670 clock for clock. That's what the extra 192 shaders do. I hate comparing the factory overclocked 7970...

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Point_Of_View/GeForce_GTX_680_TGT_Ultra_4_GB/28.html

Seeing how a factory overclocked GTX 680 still beats it and a mildly overclocked one at that.

I see this degenerating rapidly. All I'll say is the example you link is the TGT which is at 1100MHz+. The example i gave is at 1050MHz max.

If you want equal clocks, try this:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_7970_Toxic_6_GB/28.html

Given the green bar is at 1100MHz, it's a fairer comparison. So let's not fight. Let's agree, clock for clock, neither team win this one? Or should we say, both teams top cards win. :toast:

And the 6GB memory on a single card does jack shit, just like the 4GB on the TGT card.

I agree completely but it validates the speed of the 7970. Both my 7970's are stock pcb's and run at 1050 without voltage adjustments. Yes, the GHz editions are AMD's backwards mistake - should have released them first.

lol, just saw your's are at 1300 - respect!

You are missing the point I never said it was faster than the AMD card clock for clock merely it was faster than the GTX670 clock for clock.

If you want to get really silly and compare extremes the GTX 680 wins

Oh c'mon now....

Anyway, I misread you. Yes, OFC it's faster than the 670 clock for clock.

I haven't even mentioned compute yet ;)

Some of you seem to be missing the point of this thread. The OP wants to know a good hardware configuration to go with a GTX 680. No need to mention and argue about other graphics cards.

Thanks.

OP, what programs are you planning on using? If it can benefit from GPU acceleration, you don't have to worry about the processor so much. If not, you might want to reconsider the card you get.

Even though I'm an AMD fan, I'd have to admit that just about any decently clocked Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge processor would do well. I almost always recommend getting one with an unlocked multiplier since it will allow you to overclock with little to no effort. Free performance is free performance, after all.

IF you find an Intel processor you're interested in and AMD has a similarly priced processor, it may be worth taking a look the AMD as they're usually good value for money.

As far as cooling gives if you don't plan to overclock you really don't need more than stock. If you plan on clocking I would go with your choice of an all in one water cooler. The new thermaltakes stuff is very good. It's nice because they are low noise as well.

@XVI,

Basically I will work on the .NET hence i will need the sql server and also the .net along with the crystal report, and my room mate is java developer so and working on eclipse hence he also need the Oracle Db now the way both DB's are i am quite sure that they will use alot of processing speed, and after this I will play games like Battle-filed 3, Run or other games...

And I want no lag while playing games...so please suggest me a configuration and also help me in the selection of processor.

The setup I suggested is the best thing out there. I would toss another ram kit in if I was you however.

Since he doesn't have a budget, I say he should probably go to Sandy Bridge E 3930k. Whoops i thought you were the one saying he should get a 3770k z77 setup. Sorry haha.

Nope was going for a 3930K from the get go.

For what to go with and money not being an issue

I7 3930K
Asrock extreme 4 X79
4x4GB DDR3
256GB SSD
2TB HDD
Corsair H100
850W powersupply
Case

That should about cover it.

No reason for the highest end mobo the asrock is a damn good board and a damn good price. Only benefit to the GB is the extra ram dimm's...

I would still rather have the peace of mind in having those extra DIMM slots.

I don't know what case and what cooling....(WUD BE FINE IF U GUY's SUGGEST ME SOME NICE COOLING STUFF COJ I AM SURE THIS CONFIG IS GOING TO GENERATE SOME HEAT Even On MY POCKET TOO ;))

See Frends I am not very good in all these things but I want to know the options

Now budget is a main factor then let me tell you I am from India so I am ready to spend

Either one will be fine. Choose the cheapest one you can. I usually go with Evga.

Thank you again.

First of all thank you guy's..

I was also searching some good deal and what I am thinking..

Intel Core i7 3930k 3.20 GHz

Asus P9X79 Pro LGA 2011 (I really don't know whether LGA 1155 is better or not)

4*4 RAM 1600 Mz (I don't know which one and also how much wud'nt be ok if 16 GB)

$ 3000.00. (US Dollar conversion of Indian 1,55,000 Rupee)

Now Please tell me what and how and also what CASE.

WEll looks good to me. 4 x 4GB memory kit would be good for 16GB. You can only use an LGA2011 motherboard for the 3930k as it is a LGA 2011 CPU. It will be better for your uses, and since you seem to not have a budget. WHy not go for the best. Itll be better for server environment and things like that.

I highly recommend the H100 for a cooling solution!
