gtx670/680 + i7 2600k

a few quick question guys, wanna get this off my mind. I know my 2600k doesnt support pci 3.0, but would the upgrade be worth it from a gigabyte soc 580? to a gtx 670/680? since those cards use the 3.0. or should I just wait it out and save up for the next gen, then get an IB chip?

As far as I remember, those chips aren't yet constricted by a PCIe 2.0 x16 lane, so you can probably wait until Haswell or something else.

EDIT: Unless you need the performance of a 670/680, ride it out with a 580 =]

i dont need it... my mobo has 2 PCIe 3.0 slots. but with the money ive been saving up im thinking about 2 gtx670s, even 2 680s if i can save up a little longer. i just dont want my cpu to be the problem of bottlenecking

I would suggest getting a second,used 580 and running sli insted of getting 670sli and wait for maxwell as far as pci-e 2.0 goes if your mobo can do 2x16 than 2 670's will have enugh bandwith.

Yeah, I also suggest staying with the 580. Running a GTX670/680 SLI set-up is where you'll see a bottleneck from PCIe 2.0 from what I remember reading on these forums. That's when socket 2011 with it's 2*16 PCIe slots becomes a viable option for a gaming rig.
