I am also always looking for the best E-ATX board, but there's always a deal-breaker. With the FTW, that seems to be the BIOS-from-Hell, allegedly written by the video card team to save money, and seemingly incapable of improvement. That seems to be the theme these days - good hardware with crappy software. Even Asus, whose UEFI BIOS is arguably the best in the industry, has very buggy software utilities that work sporadically and give false temp readings. The interesting board right now is the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP7, which insanely has 32 high performance voltage phases for the CPU to (theoretically) overclock higher than any other board (but I see from user reviews that it's unstable at normal loads and only good for benchmarking records). If they can work the bugs out of it with BIOS updates, it should be a great premium board, and it is set up to work just as well with one video card as with 2 or more, unlike the Sniper 3 which works best with 2 or more. The Asus Z77 Maximus boards are probably the safest bet when it comes to E-ATX, though, if you don't mind all the ROG stuff.

yes, Evga boards are trash. They used to be good, till they lost a lot of the guys in the motherboard development. My last Evga board was the Evga Classified X58, and its the BIOS that killed it.

My name in your sig is spelt wrong.

Thanks, mkay?

Did someone say UP7? Longterm stability? oh, so sorry you bought the wrong ram. Yeah.

No, seriously, I'm playing with ram and this board right now, and it really matters at this point.

I just tested the Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 and it overclocked like a monster. I got 5.1Ghz(semi-stable) on a core i7 3770 and ran benchies but temps were to warm to run 24/7(custom water). I broke 6GHz on dry ice. The review publishes tommorrow and I will get the link for ya. Another goodie was the ASRock Z77 OC too but it needed a lot more voltage to overclock than the UP7.

I say before this is for me best board for OC side, I will see what is with RAM when change on faster and more, but for now I don't have problem with EVGA Z77 FTW. I OC on CH4F, M4E my friend have, before that some ASUS not ROG, before that GIGABYTE AMD, and for me OC side is best EVGA.
But people have problems... that is obvius and I can't say nothing.

Cooler H100, with some Swiftech or EK easy 5.0GHz on some 1.375V-1.400V.
And ASUS ROG make better boards than GIGABYTE, proficient people, better overclockers, everything best now work for ASUS and they dictate everything.
But I'm EVGA Fan because EVGA is for now good for me and have far better designers than any and I'm only really happy with EVGA in behind my Windows side Panel, I don't like that shiny modern east look in every other manufacturer except EVGA. EVGA is best in Graphic Cards.

Yeah I do know they lost a bunch of guys in that division as was said (what competitor did they go to again? Or am I thinking of DFI back when?) and I personally cannot speak from experience as to the quality of their more recent boards but I do love my rock-solid and great-looking P55 FTW (which I am about to convert to a home test server; going m-itx for main rig). Even though the BIOS apparently is some weird non-standard AMI implementation that cannot be opened for editing in MTOOL and thus I cannot get my onboard Intel SATA RAID controller BIOS updated like some guy on the EVGA forums just did for all the X58 boards. Other than that will be good for my present server needs with plenty of expansion slots, VT-d support and even a second powered eSATA port that apparently has port multiplier support provided by a Marvell 6121 controller.

Their m-itx board also looks interesting...if it ever comes out.

EVA= ever, not EVGA :) Sorry for misleading!

I bought a Gigabyte board last year and was shocked to see their old old old horrible looking apps. Well Asus was the same 2 years ago and have now updated their AI Suite etc, someday they will manage to do it too.

Doesn't the Z77 FTW have some big problems with PCI-E lane performance?

True. In fact, most of the time all motherboard apps disappear from my hard drive (and I do never install them all to begin with) Still a delusion when you remove things you paid for.

OK I don't believe in that but I will buy Maximus 5 Formula soon, I have money for that. If test show something different, if EVGA have same fps, same CINEBENCH 11, same fritz, fps in Crysis, result or better remember my words I will sprinkle zippo fluid on Maximus 5, piss on board and everything record and upload on youtube. I'm crazy I can do that easy without shame or anything. Because I know what east marketing doing EVGA is my last brand my last chance because leave everything because east jerks, their massive RMA and customer support and I know exactly what they do, but never mind. EVGA will became strong only if start to make everything in USA. You say EVGA is so bad, I didn't see that before really, this is disaster if it's true. On one side disaster in Performance in other disaster in design and technical support. If this is in every game I don't know what to say... No words. Yes I don't play sport games but never mind if this is in one game than in other is same.
15fps minus.... 15fps Chaos pure.

Yes I'm without comment for this really :) I try to avoid that ROG because everything ASRock, MSI, ROG, GIGABYTE, everything except DFI ex DFI and EVGA for me is like from same shop, like same fabric make them. I look 15min in total ROG Z77 series and I feel like I have that boards 3 years in PC.
I don't know what to say for you, I change my advice after... go for Maximus 5 Formula because sound card, Maximus 5 Extreme is bad sound card and for LN2.
For one card it's good, for two you can always think you pay same price for x8 SLI mode except x16 SLI/CF mode like on EVGA.
I will change board because I didn't listen, I didn't excpect records but less expect worse on market.
Lucky for me I have one more solid panel for Obsidian 650D to avoid looking on east toys 5 Maximus. Good look must wait for some better times.

I understand you Vlada (hard but possible :) If there were just some European factories, there would not be as much RMA of Foxconn derivates, the conning and swindling fox...

Only some older in 30+ years can understand that. My HI-Fi, TV, video recorders from USA, Netherlands, Japan in late 70th and 80th years work and today. These kids don't know nothing. They grow like close forge east nations. Their moto is lets forge whole world and destroy everything good, In house electronic, clothes, watches, ... everything have cheap copy from China, and whole that region is not raise like USA and support for one product after 50 year. My mother have one house duster from USA, very expensive almost 2000$ but work more than 20 years, and that model from period before II world war work and today, fabric make new models but still have support and parts for model before 60 years. That is impossible for China and for me is absolutely possible they make better parts for brands from that region. Do you see Apple can't force them to work. They don't know to make parts, quality is terrible, control disaster...curse whole west in fabric, who know what they do with parts...And why is people mad, why is phones damage, ... Samsung Galaxy was far from their mind before Iphone show up. HTC, Galaxy, xaxaxa, everything still from Apple...
I agree some Taiwan brands are not same but that is far like people pay for that... Far that must work 10-15 years like nothing. Now If you work during warranty period, you can sing. Most people give up from RMA some 100-120$ boards after 2 years and that is their most earning. They raise on that and now dictate everything. But everything have end. If they grow for 10 years they will fall for 3, like card tower when USA, Canada, EU decide to change law, most because economic crisis and start to make again everything on west, double taxes on hardware form east and than quality will back like before 20 years, because that is mentality deep in people, and nobody can't change that... Because this will end in total collapse of economy. People on west are without jobs, never mind I will pay board 500$ if that is quality from west and work 5 years. What is 500$, GIGABYTE use almost 500$ for I don't know how to call that when you hold in hands, that only new generation think about that like something...
Everything good Iphone, Rolex, Versace, Armani, RayBan, Zippo, thousand things have cheap copy 90% on east and that is world cancer.
I remember when I was 15-16 years and than JVC, Grunding, Sharp,...I don't know Phillips,...you hear something not work one in five years and everybody have everything.
RMA, if something not work, that day in shop when you back you get new, RMA... one in thousand cases, now I don't know man who have PC, every my friend have 3-5 RMA when I say every I mean EVERYBODY. About half something little is problem. And when work, work but some little things are not 100% good. 100% good, less than 70%.
