noob question...8800gtx

would a 3800+ AM2 dual core and a 8800gtx become bottlenecked?

what resolution?

yes, but only mildly at high resolutions. astronomical bottlenecking at low res, but you won't notice the difference between 90fps and 120fps, but 3DMark will. games won't, in other words.

8800gtx is very cpu dependent...it even bottleneck the c2d extreme.

I would just get the 8800GTS, and if down the road you feel like it's falling under, SLI it. I have 8800GTS with a C2D e6600, but before that I was using it with a Pentium D 920, and though generally max frame rates didn't increase, I could user higher resolutions, all effects/eye candy, and min frame rates saw a huge leap.

Of course with C2D it went even way higher.

so if i get the gts and a amd athlong 5400 fx 2.6ghz will that be a good machine

Not too sure on the 5400 FX, assuming its a Dual Core, and I would think as much, then it would be a very nice machine, I would have to look into the 5400 FX more though before I could really tell you.
